Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a full time band 5 staff nurse post to come and join us on the medical day ward. This will be a 12mth fixed term contract. This is a newly merged unit and opened in October 2022. We cover 6 different specialties and require a staff nurse who shows excellent skills in communication, and wants to work in a very busy day unit were you will learn lots of new skills.

We look after 6 different specialties which includes
Endocrinology
Haematology
Clinical chemistry
Respiratory
Renal
Gastroenterology
The successful candidate will look after all the specialties and will get to learn all the different tests and infusions we do on the medical day ward, plus will learn lots of new skills

Job description
Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will be looking after all specialties of patients we treat, and will safely deliver high standards of care.
The medical day unit is open from Monday to Friday 08:00am until 18:00pm at present and closed Bank Holidays.
Duties include administration of medications oral and IV, injections, Venesections, and look after paracentesis patients who require ascetic drain insertion.
There will also be an opportunity to attend a non cancerous chemotherapy course so you will gain the skills to deliver cytotoxic infusions
We have a highly skilful team already established on the day ward who will support the successful candidate .
The medical day ward has a fantastic team of nurses and admin who always supportive of each other
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
1. Registered Nurse, current NMC registration
2. Diploma in Nursing
Desirable
3. Mentorship/teaching qualification
4. Post registration qualification in relevant specialty
Experience
Essential
5. Post registration experience and successful completion of band 5 foundation gateway competencies
6. Experience within relevant clinical setting
7. Evidence of maintaining a clinical learning environment
8. Evidence of working with students

9. Recent acute hospital experience [including as a student nurse]
Knowledge

10. Knowledge of current nursing issues and clinical governance
