Occupational Therapy Clinical Support Worker- Stroke
Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Occupational Therapy Stroke Team at Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda, Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB.
As an Occupational Therapy Support Worker, you will work closely with the Occupational Therapists and the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide a patient-centred approach to engaging patients while adjusting this to reflect their fluctuating needs. You will need to have good communication skills, time management, prioritisation skills, and flexibility. Experience in working in Rehabilitation Services would be an advantage. In addition, the role will be vital in supporting the smooth running of the department by undertaking some administrative tasks.
The successful candidate will understand the key contribution that meaningful activity plays in a person's life, be able to enable rather than 'do for,' and be keen to develop their knowledge and skills.
You will be working directly with patients following delegated OT treatment plans both independently and jointly with the OTs. Consequently, you will need to have great communication skills, be computer literate, able to manage your own time, and support the work of the team in the hospital and, at times, in the community.
You will receive regular supervision and appraisal from the Occupational Therapist and be expected to take an active role in your continuous personal development.
Main duties of the job
1. To work as part of the Therapy team to undertake specific clinical and administrative tasks, implement intervention programmes as instructed and delegated by the OT, responding flexibly to the needs of the service.
2. Support the OT staff by assisting with all modalities of therapeutic care.
3. To provide care to the patients, as delegated by the OT's, to the extent of their competencies.
4. Participate in project work, audits, and provision of relevant statistics which may be for the benefit of patients or the OT department.
5. Monitor stocks of equipment and ensure appropriate supplies are ordered.
6. To promote independence, health and well-being, and safety in hospital, home, or community settings.
7. Develop a patient-centred approach to engaging patients in specific therapeutic interventions following the aims/methods given by the Therapist and adjust own clinical interventions based on the fluctuating needs of the person.
