As part of our Regional Buildings division, as a Senior Quantity Surveyor you will have a track record in managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. Seeking to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. Typically, you will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES or CIOB. Experience of managing a small team of less experienced commercial staff as well as mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified.
You will be part of the project team responsible for the design and build of a state of the art engineering and laboratory work spaces for a high security site in Reading.
The project consists of 5 new build facilities featuring a truly breath-taking street environment which connects the new offices, learning spaces and science laboratories with the natural environment.
What you'll be doing
1. Analytical Thinking & Decision Making
2. Orders information and systematically checks data
3. Cost Engineering
4. Prepares Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents
5. Estimating
6. Critically appraises, estimates and negotiates the above with 3rd parties
7. Planning
8. Reviews complex contract programmes such as Time-Location
9. Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes
10. Project Management
11. Monitors subcontract activities, measures and responds appropriately
12. Analyses the commercial progress and reports to senior project staff
13. Procurement
14. Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes
15. Prepares procurement programme and helps develop the strategy
16. Commercial Management
17. Analyses rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required
18. Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required
19. Prepares Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation
20. Development, Recruitment and Retention
21. Maintains own Personal Development Plan
22. Actively supports the development of others
23. Produces plans for team to achieve goals / aspirations
24. Supports recruitment of lower grades
Who we're looking for
The following qualifications are essential:
* BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent
* Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
