Evenlode ward is a 10 bedded, medium secure service for people with a learning disability. We support individuals who are 18 years or older to understand their needs around Neurodivergence, Mental Health and Forensic risks to rehabilitate and return to their community.
Evenlode ward has a skilled multidisciplinary team who work closely and collaboratively with patients, families and their carers to meet the needs of people in our care and tailor a pathway to provide education and rehabilitation.

Main duties of the job
As the ward manager, you will:
1. Work as part of a highly skilled and knowledgeable multi-disciplinary team
2. Hold key responsibilities around promoting excellence and effective team working
3. Provide leadership and clinical management to the ward team
4. Be a highly visible role model
5. Effectively apply your knowledge, skills and experience to oversee and maintain the highest standards of care
6. Actively communicate and engage with other professionals (internal and external) as a senior clinical member of the team
7. Provide advice, support, direction and supervision to clinical staff
8. Hold responsibility for the ward environment and its resources

Job responsibilities
The hours are 9:00-5:00, Monday to Friday with some flexibility expected to provide out of hours management oversight as part of the Forensic on call rota system.
The successful candidate needs to have experience and competence in utilising PEACE intervention to provide leadership and support in Managing violence and aggression.
1. To oversee the co-ordination and effective management of the ward clinical team within the Secure Psychiatric Service. This includes covering for the unit totalling 10 beds.
2. To ensure a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for staff and service users.
3. To ensure the least restrictive approach to risk management is employed with an emphasis on collaboration with the patient.
4. To ensure that the nursing care in the service is of the highest standard, providing leadership and vision to the nursing team. To ensure adequate numbers of suitably skilled staff are working effectively.
5. To ensure that the unit operates within its budget and makes the best use of resources.
6. To ensure that the unit meets the needs and wishes of service users, within the limitations of the secure environment.
7. To ensure the security of the unit and all who use it and that policies and procedures are in place and followed.
8. To ensure that the unit operates in close communication and co-operation with the rest of secure services within the Trust.
9. To support and enable the strategic development of services across the Thames Valley, managing any necessary changes to the unit and its functioning.
10. To oversee recruitment, induction and team building of the staff group and the planning and organisation of therapeutic services.
This will include effective liaison with capital project workers, project managers, builders and contractors, Human Resources, staff groups, members of all disciplines and service users, among others. Person Specification
Knowledge
* Excellent knowledge of the needs of the users of forensic mental health services
* Knowledge of legal frameworks when supporting people with Learning Disabilities
* Thorough understanding of delivering mental health nursing within secure settings
* Ability to identify the development needs of those in your team and Implement a plan to meet them.
* Knowledge and Understanding of HR procedures
* Competence in PEACE intervention
* Some knowledge and experience of project management processes
* Evidence of Leadership skill
* Training and experience of Quality Improvement
Skills
* Physical capacity to complete control and restraint training
* Able to work on own initiative and time manage.
* Experience of Leading a Team
* Driving Licence
* Experienced in Quality Improvement Projects
Training & Experience
* Registered Mental Health Nurse/ Registered Learning Disability Nurse
* At least three years post registration experience
* At least two years post registration experience in a secure setting
* Experience of dealing with management of change
* Competence of PEACE Training
* Qualification in Leadership & Management.
* Qualification in Positive Behavioural Support or willingness to undergo further training.

£46,148 to £52,809 a year Per Annum, Plus RSU Allowance.
