Job responsibilities
This is a development post, offering you the chance to progress within the role. Upon successful completion of the competency framework, you will advance to Band 5, with responsibilities expanding to include leadership, supervision, and the development of new services and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities: As a Pharmacy Technician/Science Manufacturing Technician, you will be responsible for:
1. Providing clear and effective verbal and written communication.
2. Working with other healthcare professionals to resolve challenges in medicine supply and ensure patient care is not compromised.
3. Achieving and maintaining core competencies, including aseptic preparation and a Pre and In Process Checking accreditation.
4. Progressing through the competency framework with a focus on the safe and effective delivery of Pharmacy aseptic services.
5. Initially supervising pharmacy support workers and junior staff, allocating tasks to meet workload demands.
6. After competency completion, leading and planning the day-to-day work of staff, including managing the supervision of a cleanroom.
7. Acting as a mentor and role model for junior staff, offering guidance, training, and support to foster their professional development.
8. Providing developmental feedback and assisting with the creation of action plans to ensure continuous improvement.
9. Contributing to service improvement initiatives and identifying areas where processes and workflows can be enhanced.
10. Reviewing, developing, and implementing SOPs to ensure safe and efficient working practices.
11. Ensuring staff adherence to updated SOPs through ongoing training and support.
12. Overseeing stock control, resolving discrepancies, and reporting any issues to ensure continuity in medicine supply.
13. Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory guidelines related to medicines.
14. Participating in the recruitment and selection of new staff in line with Trust procedures.
15. Upholding the highest standards of practice, following Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and COSHH guidelines.
16. Maintaining your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio in line with professional standards set by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) or Science Councils.
Essential Requirements:
1. Registered Pharmacy Technician or Science Manufacturing Technician (or equivalent).
2. Strong communication and team working skills, with the ability to engage effectively with team members.
3. A commitment to continuous professional development and delivering high-quality aseptic services.

Qualifications / training required
Essential
1. NVQ 2 in Pharmacy or other Level 2 approved GPhC qualification for pharmacy support staff or equivalent experience.
2. Supervisory qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience of supervision.
Desirable
1. 2 GCSE's or equivalent grades A* - C or 4-9 in English and Maths.
2. Other healthcare qualifications.
3. GCSEs in science-based or other role specific relevant subjects.
Previous or relevant experience necessary
Essential
1. Use of information technology in the workplace or within education or voluntary sector.
2. Standard keyboard skills.
3. Previous pharmacy experience (hospital or community) or supervisory experience.
Desirable
1. Previous experience in health or social care (if not pharmacy).
2. Experience in stock control i.e., receiving, maintaining and / or issuing stock.
3. Clinical trials or research experience (Clinical trials only).
4. Use of till and / or handling money in a work environment (RSH posts only).
Aptitudes and skills required
Essential
1. Customer service skills in the workplace or voluntary sector.
2. Communicate effectively with others in English both in speaking and writing.
3. Able to demonstrate ability to pass Numeracy test at interview.
4. Ability to follow procedures.
