The Opportunity
EDF is at the forefront of the UK's Nuclear New Build Programme, constructing Hinkley Point C in Somerset, which when operational will provide low carbon electricity to 6 million homes in the UK.
We are looking for a Training and Competency Specialist, to ensure that our Commissioning and Operational workforce remains highly skilled, safe, and competent to fulfil their roles.
You will play a crucial part in shaping the capabilities of our team, aligning training programs with organisational goals, and meeting both internal and external standards.
Your expertise will directly contribute to plant safety, workforce performance, and regulatory compliance, making this a key role in our operations.

What you’ll be doing
In this role, you’ll design, implement, and maintain comprehensive competency frameworks tailored to business needs. You’ll conduct job analyses to develop detailed training profiles, ensuring our people meet suitably experienced qualified person (SQEP) standards. Working closely with stakeholders, you’ll identify skill gaps, support role and competency assessments, and collaborate on strategies to address training needs.
You’ll act as the intelligent customer for training design, providing oversight on programme development, and ensuring alignment with regulatory standards through the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT). By validating training programs, you’ll ensure they are effective, fit for purpose, and compliant with industry regulations.
Your responsibilities will include participating in Training Advisory Committees, audits, and inspections, as well as mentoring and coaching colleagues to foster a culture of continuous learning. You’ll also author and maintain training procedures, ensuring they reflect current best practices and regulatory requirements.
Who you are
We are looking for a proven training professional with a background in designing and implementing systematic training programs. You should hold a HNC (or have equivalent experience) in Human Resources, Training, Learning & Development, or a relevant technical field, and have experience in the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) and the Graded Approach.
With a track record in competency development, you possess strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills. You thrive in managing complex projects, are adept at using Learning Management Systems (LMS), and excel at aligning training initiatives with business goals.
Above all, you’re passionate about creating impactful training strategies that support safety, development, and performance in high-stakes environments.
