An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Adult Critical Care Outreach Team as a Senior Project Nurse at Leeds. You will be responsible for supporting quality improvement for the deteriorating patient agenda. The immediate focus of the successful candidate will be towards improvements with Sepsis and AKI management.
You will be an experienced nurse, with in-depth knowledge of caring for acutely ill and deteriorating patients, an expert in sepsis recognition and treatment, educated to post-graduate degree level or have equivalent clinical experience. You will hold a recognised teaching qualification and have evidence of recent development relevant to deteriorating and septic patients; a project management/quality improvement qualification would be an advantage.
You will have the opportunity to further develop your knowledge and skills in the management of the acutely ill patient. As leadership, education, and audit are integral to this role, there are further opportunities to develop these skills. The successful candidate will work closely with the Lead Clinician for sepsis, Infection Prevention, Critical Care Outreach, ICU/HDU, and Resuscitation Services, with a chance to gain experience in quality improvement work with a Trust-wide remit.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to work in the Critical Care Outreach Team to implement and/or facilitate a range of projects in the Trust, including leading and driving the safe staffing assurance and workforce transformation agendas.
* The post holder will lead and drive the Sepsis agenda.
* They will proactively plan, develop and enact the Sepsis Quality Improvement agenda.
* Lead and collaborate with Trust-wide or CSU or professional specific projects and strategies.
* Engage with corporate and operational teams to support continual improvement.
* Participate in the planning and management of projects as required.
* Provide feedback to relevant corporate and operational teams on progress and issues relating to clinical practice on wards and clinical areas.
* Lead on nursing, midwifery and AHP policy development relating to local and national objectives.

Job responsibilities
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Management and Leadership
* Be a clinical lead within the Adult Critical Care teams.
* Lead operational activities identified in project plans in order to manage, facilitate and implement defined projects targets, notifying the managers when issues or problems occur. This will involve initiating, planning, and organising work schedules and project plans.
* Develop effective communication with all healthcare professionals in order to foster a good understanding of clinical systems and the roles and responsibilities of staff who use them.
* Identify the risks associated with the implementation of new projects, and assist the other project leads in monitoring and reducing these risks.
* Provide regular updates or progress reports to strategic collaborative groups as required by the project manager and assurance groups.
* Appropriately record and where possible address or escalate issues and concerns raised through the course of the project by stakeholders.
* Build effective relationships with the managers and staff of designated departments and clinical areas.
* Promote and facilitate change projects to encourage acceptance and engagement.
* Be a positive role model for all healthcare professionals in relation to clinical practice and clinical change.
* Participate in the appraisal process for self and team members.
* Financial responsibility for ordering stationery, posters etc.; although not actually holding the budget, the post holder will make decisions about the purchase of goods volumes and type relating to the project remit.
* Act in such a way that safeguards the health and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults at all times. Is familiar with and adheres to the LTHT safeguarding policies.
* Raise concerns with regards to risk, danger, malpractice or wrongdoing by following the LTHT Whistleblowing Policy and supporting processes.
* Take part in testing relevant software applications, document the results and highlight any concerns that may relate to clinical use. Use clinical experience and judgement to determine the importance of any system deficiencies found during testing.
* Use clinical knowledge, judgement, and experience to determine how to configure and use clinical IT systems for clinical processes, particularly where opinions differ on the best approach.
* Collate and document feedback, issues and comments from clinical teams and use the feedback and their professional judgement to develop processes and future improvements.
* Carry out audit work related to clinical systems.
* Assist other clinical leads in analysing new local, regional, and national initiatives and imperatives, relevant to clinical systems and identify responses to them. Share these proposals with relevant senior staff and stakeholders.
* Represent the Trust in networks relevant to the Corporate Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals Team agenda at local, regional and/or at a national level. Use these networks to share best practice and to bring information and new ideas back to the Trust team.
* Be an ambassador for Adult Critical Care, in particular, when coming into contact with key senior figures within the Trust, and with external agencies, organisations, and official bodies.
* Support the work of other team members who may work within Corporate Nursing on a temporary basis.
* The job holder will perform other duties as commensurate with grade and role as agreed with the line manager.
* There may be a requirement for some occasional weekend, out of hours and on call work, local and national travel particularly during the implementation phase of clinical projects.
Education and Training
* Deliver presentations, and demonstrate the product to all levels of clinical, administrative, and managerial staff in a manner that is appropriate for the audience.
* Facilitate one to one and classroom-based training to staff of all levels including clinicians and management.
* Support the preparation of user guides and training materials and provide input into the structure of training sessions.
* Complete Mandatory and Priority Training within the specified timescales.
Clinical professional practice
* Assist the Head of Nursing, working collaboratively with clinical colleagues to improve project implementation across the Trust.
* Review practice, audit against agreed standards and liaise with nursing staff to ensure the relevant trust guidelines are applied across the Trust.
* Review clinical practice on wards and departments. Identify where practice goes outside safe limits and lead any changes in practice which are needed in order to reduce a risk which has been identified.
* Approve requisitions for posters and leaflets as required.
* It is expected that the post holder will do up to 4-5 clinical shifts per month. This may vary according to the requirement of the projects.
* Keep up to date with clinical practice and demonstrate and maintain a commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
* Fulfil the requirements as directed by the relevant Professional body to maintain and revalidate registration.

Experience
* Proven clinical & leadership experience which includes managing changing and competing workloads within clinical environments.

* Qualification in or equivalent advanced specialist knowledge in quality improvement methodology.
