Deputy Section Manager - Mammals (including Apes)

Join our Mammal team at Blackpool Zoo as a Deputy Section Manager and contribute to the daily care and husbandry needs of our diverse range of species. We are undergoing an exciting evolution within our Animal Department, and we invite you to be a part of it.
As a Deputy Section Manager, your key roles and responsibilities would be to:
1. Assist in the management and supervision of the daily operation of the mammals section to ensure the best possible health and welfare of the animal stock maintained within it, in accordance with SSSMZP.
2. Assist in cultivating working routines, which not only produce an efficient use of personnel but which also motivates and develops the individual, the team & the department as a whole.
3. Actively participate in the ongoing development of the zoo as a quality visitor attraction, promoting the care & conservation of the animals in your care, creating a greater awareness of the natural world amongst guests & visitors.
4. Assist the Section Manager in supervising a Senior Keeper and Animal Keepers that report into this position, you will also manage the department in the absence of the Section Manager, reporting directly to the Animal Manager / Zoo Director in their absence.
5. Work with all species on your section in a safe and secure manner, using positive reinforcement methods.
The successful applicant will need to be a proven team player with an excellent knowledge of the zoological industry and the requirements needed to maintain and continuously improve the husbandry and welfare of the animal species under their care.
In addition to excellent husbandry skills, candidates should already have experience of staff management as this is essential to this role, as such this is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to progress in their career.
You should possess the Diploma in The Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA) or an equivalent and have a minimum of seven years keeping experience. A full valid driving licence is also essential. Previous experience supervising staff and working with a range of category 1 animals including apes is essential.
