Working with a leading nuclear engineering consultancy, NRL are looking for a Senior Shielding Consultant to work on a permanent basis and can be based out of Warrington, Bristol, Leicester or West Cumbria.
The role
As a Senior Shielding Consultant, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. The Senior Shielding Consultant will assume a technical lead role within engineering projects, where you will be performing shielding modelling and delivering associated calculations and reports to customers across Civil Nuclear and Defence.
Day to day, you’ll develop and maintain excellent working relations with customers, colleagues, and other internal departments:
1. Work within multi-disciplinary teams, where you will integrate yourself and ensure that consistent approaches are adopted, and timely support provided to all relevant project stakeholders.
2. Authoring of shielding reports and related calculation notes, and verification of others’ work.
3. Supervising the work of junior technical specialists within the same discipline.
4. Managing delivery of tasks undertaken within their agreed Delegation of Authority (DOA) against cost and programme to the satisfaction of Key Stakeholders.
5. Ensuring effective management of the customer, including liaison and relationship development with existing and new customers, to aid the development of business, resolution of technical and delivery issues such that the customer is fully briefed and informed of progress.
This role is adaptable and can be based near one of the UK hubs, including Leicester, Warrington, Bristol etc. with a hybrid working arrangement with one to two days per week from the office, this will be dependent on business needs and/or the requirement to attend meetings onsite.
Essential Experience of The Senior Shielding Consultant:
6. Excellent working knowledge of radiation transport codes, particularly Monte Carlo codes MCBEND and/or MCNP.
7. Experience working on major projects in a shielding technical lead role.
Desirable Experience of The Senior Shielding Consultant:
8. Working knowledge of the SCALE suite of codes (particularly for fuel inventory and neutron activation analysis).
9. Experience working with Point Kernel codes (RANKERN and/or Microshield).
Qualifications for the Senior Shielding Consultant:
10. Degree in a relevant scientific or engineering technical discipline.
Candidates need to be SC or DV cleared to start in the role. Due to the secure and sensitive nature of some of the work undertaken, candidates need to be sole British nationals.
