Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Psychology Graduate Preferred)

Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and resilient SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Tameside. This is an ideal role for a Psychology graduate who is passionate about supporting students with SEMH needs, helping them develop emotional regulation skills, and facilitating their learning and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH, ensuring their engagement and progress in the classroom.
- Implementing strategies and interventions tailored to individual students' needs to support their emotional and social development.
- Assisting the class teacher in managing challenging behavior and promoting positive outcomes for students.
- Supporting students in their academic tasks while also focusing on building self-confidence and emotional resilience.
- Working closely with the school's SENCO and other professionals to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
What We're Looking For:
- A Psychology degree (or equivalent) with an interest in SEMH and supporting students with additional needs.
- Experience or a strong understanding of SEMH, and the ability to build strong, positive relationships with students.
- Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to helping students manage emotional challenges.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external support services.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
