The post will form part of our general surgical team providing excellent surgical care for our patients, with the opportunity to design and develop within your own specialty interest as part of your appointment process. This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis for a 12 month fixed period on a Locum contract, although less than full time applications will be considered. Duties will be based primarily on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care on all our sites. The main duties of the post will include: To provide a clinical service of the highest quality to general surgical patients To participate in acute care including sharing leadership and oversight of the Acute Surgical Assessment Unit To work collaboratively with colleagues as part of a cohesive team To drive the services Excellence in Teaching agenda, as a leader and role model to junior members of staff With recruitment to these posts the acute rota will become shared amongst 16 colleagues and attract 4.75Pas. There are plans to further expand our consultant workforce in the future and thereby bringing down the emergency work commitments and increasing the potential for delivering more elective activities. Non-elective weeks pair an Upper GI surgeon and a Colorectal surgeon on call alternating roles between first and second call on a 1:8 non-resident basis. Nights on-call are covered separately on a 1:8 basis. Supporting Professional Activities are actively supported in accordance with the Trust Framework, with 1.5 SPAs included in the core timetable; additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service. The unit works as a team and all consultants will have equitable access to office space and secretarial, admin, medical and non-medical staff support.
