An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team in the Pre-Operative Assessment Unit at Ipswich Hospital. We are ideally looking for a nurse with previous surgical experience and post registration experience.
Our nurse led team deliver pre-operative assessment to patients who will be undergoing a range of elective procedures within the specialties of Urology, General Surgery, Colorectal, ENT, Vascular, Oral, Plastic Surgery and Breast surgery.
Working closely with anaesthetic colleagues and surgeons, we are a forward thinking, innovative team who relish a challenge and who are responsive to the needs of the service and the requirements of our patients.
Training and support in order to reach the competence required to deliver your assessments autonomously will be given and there will be opportunities to develop your clinical skills to enhance your patient care.
Currently the unit delivers appointments to patients between 0800 – 1700 Monday to Friday.
Key components of the role of the pre-operative assessment nurse include:
1. Preparing the patient, and those close to them, for their forthcoming surgery, physically, psychologically and through education.
2. Thorough assessment and appropriate actions to highlight and minimise operative risk, and deliver safe outcomes through careful pathway planning.
You will need to have good communication skills and a professional approach to deliver information and health promotion to enable patients and their carers to optimise their health prior to surgery.
You will be a motivated individual who ideally should have current or recent experience in acute surgical pathways, though this is not essential.
