About the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you will support day-to-day financial operations, assist with month-end procedures, and help ensure the accuracy of financial records. Collaborating closely with various departments, you will play a key role in maintaining smooth financial processes, including reconciliations, reporting, and payroll management.
You will oversee the full payroll process for our UK employees and work with external providers to manage payroll for teams in the USA, Canada, and Switzerland. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing while ensuring compliance with statutory regulations. A strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to navigate complex payroll scenarios are essential for this role.
Location: Hybrid, with an expectation of regular attendance at our Derry office.
What you will be doing
Roles and responsibilities include:
1. Assisting Financial Controller in the preparation of monthly management accounts and management reports.
2. Monthly Balance Sheet and P&L reconciliations.
3. Preparing Ad Hoc Finance reports for various areas of the business.
4. Liaising with external auditors and preparing supporting documentation.
5. Manage the end-to-end payroll process for UK employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of payments.
6. Preparing and filing payroll taxes.
7. Stay updated with UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements, ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations.
8. Oversee the administration of employee pension schemes, including enrolment, contributions, and liaison with pension providers.
9. Collaborate with HR and finance teams to ensure accurate employee data management.
10. Prepare and post monthly payroll journals to Netsuite ERP system.
11. Conduct monthly payroll reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies or errors.
12. Work alongside external payroll providers to process payroll in USA, Canada, and Switzerland.
Who we are looking for:
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
1. Qualifications: You will have a CAI, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent accounting qualification. Part-qualified candidates will also be considered.
2. Relevant experience: You will have proven experience in a similar accounting role, demonstrating a strong understanding of financial processes and responsibilities.
3. Communication skills: You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly.
4. Payroll management: You will have hands-on experience with Sage Payroll, including payroll processing and reporting.
5. ERP system proficiency: You will have practical experience using Netsuite for financial management and reporting.
6. Time management: You will have excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
7. Attention to detail: You will have a strong focus on accuracy and precision in financial data management and reporting.
8. Analytical skills: You will have the ability to analyse financial data, identify trends, and provide insights to support business decisions.
