Our defence client has a requirement for an experienced Maritime Platforms Engineer to join their team. The post sits within Design Authority Structures (DAST) section in the SDA In-Service Submarines Platform Engineering Team.

The post plays a fundamental role in engineering and safety decision making by assisting Struct3 on structural issues relating to Secondary Structure and Hull Surveillance Requirements for all in-service submarines.
Responsibilities include:
1. Ensuring in-service submarines remain safe to operate with respect to Structural Strength when at sea, alongside and during docking/undocking evolutions by assessing condition of the Structural elements.
2. Setting Design Authority Requirements (DAR) for surveys, repairs and concessions within the remit of Structural Strength.
3. Assessing OPDEFs for their impact on the Struct3 areas of responsibility and supporting Struct3 to issue DA requirements to address them.
4. Supporting platform surveys at either Clyde or Devonport particularly with regards to HSR surveys and developing new HSR.
5. Developing design changes for secondary structure in conjunction with Struct3 to improve safety or capability when required.
6. Reviewing Design Changes for impact on structural strength in relation to secondary structure.
7. Professional registration in line with current SDA Policy.
8. A Level 6 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, or a lesser qualification with significant relevant and demonstrable previous experience.
9. Nuclear Introductory Course.
10. System safety Awareness.
11. System Safety in Action (SSIA).
12. Safety & Environmental Management (SEMT).
13. 4 years' experience in a maritime post.
14. Minimum 2 years' experience of submarine specific structures.
