Job Introduction
We want to work with people whose diverse experiences and skills will help us turn ideas into practical innovations in artificial intelligence, shaping the future of news.
We're looking for a Senior Journalist who is familiar with the challenges of both content creation and prompting to join our team facilitating the adoption and integration of Generative AI and AI technologies into BBC News - maintaining a balance between the needs of the audience, the operating landscape, responsible implementation and the BBC's core editorial values.
The right person will develop, support and deliver pilots integrating GenAI and AI technology. They will work in very close collaboration with colleagues in other divisions, including Product, Research and Development, Nations and Regions, Content and Strategy.
This role is based in the BBC's office in the heart of Cardiff and will involve working with colleagues in offices across the country.
Main Responsibilities
We'll want you to draw on your own insights and experience together with working with news output teams across the BBC to identify problem spaces and potential solutions. You will steer the design and development of innovative projects, pilots and experiments, guiding them from concept to implementation.
We'll also want you to develop relationships between technical and editorial staff by linking groups of interested people around priority areas for innovation.
Are you the right candidate?
* You will be an experienced journalist with demonstrable knowledge of how digital stories are crafted in text, audio and video.
* Experience of delivering pilots with rigour and creativity, to schedule and with measurable outcomes, gathering meaningful insights to establish firm grounds for delivery. The successful candidate will flourish in an environment where making measurable improvements is paramount.
* You'll have evidence of the capacity to understand, analyse and leverage emerging technologies for the purposes of innovation.
* A keen curiosity into the potential applications of GenAI in news journalism - and the potential risks.
* A wide-ranging understanding and curiosity about the global journalism technology landscape, along with technology platforms and their applications is essential.
