We are inviting applications for our Speciality Doctor in Glaucoma at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the Department of Ophthalmology. Applications are welcomed for this full-time post. This position would suit a post-CCT doctor who has a demonstrable interest in Glaucoma with prior training in higher specialty Glaucoma surgery.
The post is available from the end of October 2024 and is a substantive position.
Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice at the time of appointment.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of the senior clinical team to support the delivery of a high-quality and specialist glaucoma service. The post holder will be expected to participate in the diagnosis, management, and follow-up of glaucoma patients in an outpatient setting and virtually, and will also assist in the operating theatre and will be involved in complex and specialist glaucoma surgery, SLT, and YAG laser. There is likely to be the opportunity for the post-holder to keep their cataract surgical skills up to date by covering theatre lists as well as providing general or emergency clinics where necessary. He or she will complement existing Specialist Trainees and will also be expected to teach and train junior colleagues.
About us
The Eye department provides comprehensive secondary and tertiary ophthalmic services for the population, both adult and children, of Leeds and a tertiary ophthalmic service for other areas of Yorkshire. The department is well staffed and equipped and able to diagnose, investigate, treat and operate on the most difficult ophthalmic conditions.
As well as at St James's University Hospital, outpatient services are provided at Seacroft Hospital, Wharfedale General Hospital in Otley, Wetherby Eye Clinic and has links with local community providers. The post holder may be required to work at any of our Trust sites from time to time.
