Mechanical Technician - Energy from Waste

WasteRecruit has been retained to support the recruitment of a Mechanical Technician to work at a state-of-the-art Energy from Waste (EFW) facility in the Southeast. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineer, the Mechanical Technician will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of all the mechanical equipment at the EfW Plant. You will also assist in the co-ordination of contractors as required, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. This position will require response to plant and equipment breakdowns both during and outside of normal working hours.
Key Duties
1. Responsible for carrying out planned and unplanned maintenance activities to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the EfW plant.
2. Ensure maintenance plans and targets are achieved safely, economically and within the environmental limits of the plant.
3. Work alongside other functions as necessary and assist with supervision of contractors.
4. Carry out fault diagnosis and rectify as required.
5. Conduct plant inspections and area safety inspections.
6. Ensure that all reporting within the Computerised Maintenance Management System is effective and followed through to completion promptly.
7. Carry out risk assessments to ensure activities are completed in a safe manner at all times.
8. Work as part of a team striving for continual improvement in minimising environmental Health & Safety risks.
9. Maintain a clean and tidy workplace and ensure that housekeeping is carried out on a day-to-day/regular basis.
10. Record and report any impacts or potential impacts on the environment to line manager.
11. Contribute towards the team effort, encourage team spirit, and provide assistance to others.
12. Undertake internal or external training courses as necessary and assist with training where required.
13. Comply with process and procedures in the IMS, in line with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 22301 and 50001.
Key Skills & Experience
1. Possess appropriate technical qualifications City & Guilds / NVQ (or equivalent) including a recognised apprenticeship.
2. Gained several years' experience in mechanical engineering within process industry or power plants.
3. Fabrication and welding experience.
4. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels, both verbally and written.
5. Experience in working with Safe Systems of Work (PTW).
6. Experience working with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems.
7. Ability to work without supervision.
8. Ability to co-ordinate work activities including contractors.
9. Understanding of Environmental Health and Safety and their impacts.
10. Willingness and ability to operate flexibly over a wide range of work areas.
11. Computer literate.
12. Ability to undertake report writing on a variety of matters.
13. Ability to think logically and solve problems effectively and efficiently.
