WHAT DOES A CONTROL & INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN DO?
A Control & Instrumentation Technician delivers best-in-class planned, preventative, and corrective maintenance activities associated with whisky distillation and processing at our malt distilleries.
The successful candidate will contribute to Continuous Improvement activities at John Dewar and Sons Ltd (JDSL) / Bacardi to ensure that:
1. Key metrics within Spirit Supply Operations are achieved.
2. Key maintenance metrics within Spirit Supply Engineering are achieved.
3. Spirit Supply assets, equipment and engineering systems are aligned with Bacardi standards.
4. Spirit Supply equipment is maintained to the best possible standard to ensure availability is maximized to allow for optimal asset performance.
5. Strive to improve performance in line with World Class Manufacturing standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide key input in the development of a proactive/predictive maintenance strategy for all site assets.
2. Responsible for the execution of agreed planned/corrective maintenance tasks and take an active role in improving the way we carry out maintenance. This includes logging work done so that faults/problems/defects encountered are captured in the CMMS along with parts used and time spent.
3. Maintain the asset inspection and maintenance programme ensuring compliance with all safety statutory legislative requirements and best practices.
4. Follow relevant quality SOP’s to ensure the first-time quality of our products, service is guaranteed when equipment is returned to production and all work is carried out to the correct engineering standards.
5. Recommend and advise on Preventive Maintenance improvements and spare parts requirements in order to achieve maximum availability of plant & equipment. Support plant optimisation initiatives.
6. Where required, liaise with and support external suppliers/contractors. Support PTW requirements for any work by contractors (maintenance and projects).
7. Suggest improvements to ensure the smooth and efficient running of our assets.
8. Actively participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement processes relevant to maintenance excellence and demonstrate commitment to site philosophy.
9. Maintain work area to 5S standards. Ensure it is maintained in a safe and effective condition.
10. Be aware of all relevant team KPIs and understand how you can contribute to improving them.
11. Assist with asset projects from concept and design through to implementation, testing and final handover ensuring that asset drawings and registers are updated to reflect the changes.
12. Actively participate in continuous improvement activities within Spirit Supply Operations.
13. Identify and participate in training to assist in your own personal development and to improve productivity. This will include CompEx capability with knowledge of working within hazardous areas covered by the ATEX regulations.
14. Provide first-line asset support for any breakdowns on the Aberfeldy site.
15. Be proactive, ‘walk the floor’, challenge under performance, monitor trends and respond appropriately with an effective solution.
16. Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations within the workplace and strive to eliminate any potential hazards before they become accidents or incidents.
Skills/Experience
1. Completed a recognised apprenticeship with minimum HNC/HND qualification.
2. Competent in modern Automation & PLC Control systems.
3. Competent in Electrical standards and systems including compliance to electrical regulatory standards.
4. Same or comparable position in the spirit industry or FMCG.
5. Siemens PLC’s. Able to interface with PLC using programming software and make program changes.
6. Capable of working to a formal electrical change control process.
7. PLC faultfinding/maintenance and I/O faultfinding.
8. Experience/knowledge of distillation process and fluid handling.
9. Experienced in electronic VSD’s and Servo drive and control systems.
10. Sound knowledge and understanding of general 3ph motor control circuits and fault diagnosis.
11. Knowledge of electrical sensors and their applications.
12. Experience of instrumentation and PID loops.
13. Comp EX Ex 1-4 qualified.
14. BS7671 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations Qualified.
15. Demonstrable experience working safely in a manufacturing / processing environment within a maintenance department or comparable technical services team.
16. Working in a World Class environment delivering proven process improvements.
17. Knowledge of liquid handling / process equipment and machinery.
18. Excellent diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
