Purpose of the role Maintain all aspects of process control and systems relevant to the cement manufacturing process. Execute such projects as identified by the Maintenance Manager Support the Electrical Engineer in his absence. Provide software support for the process department. Key accountabilities Maintenance, updating and troubleshooting of the plant's key digital infrastructure including:- Site wide process network structure including virtual and physical machines, servers and clients. Knowledge of Ethernet,Profibus DP/PA, Modbus Kiln 4 Control system FLSA V 7.3 and ACE System. Siemens Simatic Step 7 and Siemens CFC V9 Cement department control FLSA V 6.5 and FLSA V8 CM5.Siemens Step 7 Paranext crane system and crane PLC’s Pxtrend ABB knowledge manager. Wireless networks on site. Packing Bay PLC’S Ventomatic, Arodo, Shrink Wrapping Machine Quarry crusher system and storage. Works water control systems Remote and Local to site. All site inverters coms protocols (ABB,SIEMENS,ALTSOM,DANFOSS,CONTROL TECHNIQUES). Site material feeder systems Pfister, Schenk etc. Kiln scanner. Camera network for environment and process. Environmental data logging system. Development and Design Develop and implement automation systems for cement manufacturing process. Design control systems, including PLC, SCADA, and DCS, to optimise plant performance. Create and maintain detailed documentation for all automation projects. Installation and Commissioning Oversee the installation and commissioning of automation systems using FLS Smidth ECS System v6 v7 and v8. Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. Coordinate with external contractors / vendors. Assist in implementation of capital projects from conception to hand over of a working system. Assist with the building and commissioning of virtual machines. Programming and set up of CCTV systems Maintenance and Trouble Shooting Perform regular maintenance and updates on automation systems. Diagnose and resolve issues related to control systems and instrumentation. Provide technical support to plant operations and maintenance teams. Safety and compliance Ensure all automation systems comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate safety measures. Instrumentation Systems Working knowledge of process instrumentation and calibration of, e.g. load cells for weigh systems, level control devices, PID controllers, etc Control and Safety Systems Understand the Provision Use Works Equipment Regulations (1992) Work with safety critical control systems and associated interlocks (electrical [Pilz] and mechanical [Castel/Fortress]) Where applicable understand programming/fault rectification on PLC systems associated with works, e.g. Siemens S7,CFC V9 and associated top level SCADA Assist in implementation of capital projects from conception to hand over of a working system. Understanding of SAP PM. Comply with Company IMS procedures. To liaise with supervisors on technical and safety issues. Assist in the development of a spare parts strategy which best suits plant operation. The position involves occasional weekend and night working as necessary, particularly during projects and unplanned repairs, the position will require flexible working at these times including out of hours. To provide management of contractors relevant to the role in line with UKCP01 Assist where required in investment and improvement projects to increase plant efficiency, reduce energy consumption, inline with the company sustainability policy. Receptive to and carry out training as and when required. Education/Qualification HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field. Experience Proficient in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.) and SCADA systems. Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, etc.) Experience with DCS and HMI development and troubleshooting Knowledge of process control principles and instrumentation Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
