Reporting to the Executive Governance Officer, this position provides strategic leadership, expert advice, and comprehensive management of the organisation’s risk and insurance functions. It encompasses oversight for the risk management framework, ensuring its alignment with organisational objectives, and driving the development and review of policies to mitigate risk effectively. Additionally, the role is responsible for managing complex projects related to risk and insurance, delivering expert guidance to senior leadership, and ensuring that all activities support the organisation’s long-term resilience and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement an organisational Risk Management Framework.
* Manage Council’s corporate insurance portfolio.
* Provide key support and advice on audit, risk and insurance matters to the Council.
* Undertake project work to improve systems and processes and strengthen organisational knowledge of risk and management principles and practices.
* Prepare and deliver reports to management, executive leadership team, and Council as required.
* Support the work of Council and Council Committees, including the Audit Committee.
About You
* A relevant tertiary qualification in risk, audit, insurance, business or a related field.
* Substantial professional experience that demonstrates a high level of expertise in senior risk management role ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
* Demonstrated Local Council experience in a similar role highly desirable.
* Advanced knowledge of risk management, including strategic and operational risk management frameworks and reporting.
* Extensive experience in managing internal audit programs with a focus on enhancing governance and ensuring compliance.
* Expertise in managing complex insurance portfolios, including renewals and claims.
* Demonstrated ability in drafting high quality written materials including policies, reports and templates.
* Ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to a range of audiences.
* Strong ability to establish and cultivate collaborative working relationships.
