Overview:
We are partnering with a leading food and plant manufacturing company based in Central Bedfordshire to recruit a Technical Manager. The successful candidate will have a strong background in food manufacturing, having experience with chilled products or fresh produce and have worked in a fast pace environment. They will also need to have had customer facing experience.
Summary:
As the Technical Manager, you will oversee the technical aspects of the production process, ensuring that the products meet all safety, quality, and regulatory standards. This role will require you to manage the technical team, coordinate cross-departmental collaboration, and ensure that all manufacturing practices are in line with industry best practices. You will play a crucial role in the ongoing relationship with customers, along with the development and optimization of the company’s manufacturing systems, with a focus on quality control, product innovation, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage the technical department, ensuring that all food and plant-based products meet quality standards, food safety regulations, and compliance with relevant certifications.
* Develop and implement quality management systems (QMS), and ensure that manufacturing processes comply with industry standards and legal requirements (e.g., HACCP, BRC, ISO, and others).
* Collaborate with the production and operations teams to streamline processes, improve production efficiency, and minimize waste.
* Monitor and ensure that the company meets food safety and quality control requirements, conducting routine inspections and audits to ensure continuous compliance.
* Act as the main point of contact for technical queries from customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
* Drive innovation in food product development, recommending new technologies, methods, and best practices to improve the production process.
* Provide leadership and train staff on food safety, quality control, and technical procedures.
* Prepare and present technical reports to senior management, identifying key challenges and suggesting areas for improvement.
* Work closely with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and third-party auditors, to maintain certifications and compliance.
Candidate:
The ideal candidate for this role will possess the following qualifications and experience:
* Proven experience as a Technical Manager in the food manufacturing sector.
* Strong understanding of quality management systems (QMS) and relevant food safety regulations (HACCP, BRC, ISO, etc.).
* Solid leadership skills with the ability to manage a team and work collaboratively across departments to achieve business objectives.
* In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control procedures, and compliance in the food or plant manufacturing industry.
* A degree or equivalent qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Agricultural Science, or a related field is highly desirable.
* Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise with various stakeholders and produce clear, concise technical reports.
* Ability to drive change and continuous improvement initiatives within the production environment.
