Job Purpose
The Quality Officer leads a team of 4 and reports to the Quality Manager and is a member of the Scientific Services Department. Along with other team members, the Quality Officer is responsible for contributing to the overall delivery of Scientific Services strategy, and will play a major role in the maintenance and continuous improvement of quality within Scientific Services. The role holder will play a major part in liaising with other teams/sections within the company and also with external agencies.
Job Accountabilities
* Responsible for the maintenance and continuous improvement of quality within Scientific Services as directed by the Quality Manager; recognising and meeting our internal and external customer requirements.
* To maintain and improve the Quality System to meet the requirements of regulatory bodies, accreditation agencies and Scientific Services management by performing internal and external audits in accordance with the annual audit schedule and then reporting the findings.
* Responsible for the development of plans to maintain and improve quality in Scientific Services.
* Responsible for the design, development and implementation of processes to monitor and report on progress of quality improvement measures in Scientific Services.
* To carry out the necessary actions to both ensure that compliance with quality standards is maintained and planned improvements are completed to time and budget.
* To ensure that effective communications and strong links are established inter- and intra-team within Scientific Services, and externally with regulatory bodies, accreditation agencies, external proficiency testing scheme providers and other quality teams/groups as appropriate, and also to represent Scientific Services at relevant forums.
* To facilitate audits and assessments performed by external bodies and to ensure any audit findings are acted upon.
* Responsible for ensuring that information, advice and support is given to Scientific Service staff as appropriate/required on all quality issues including Quality System, external AQC and audit findings.
* To develop and implement effective communication strategies for the promotion of quality and health & safety.
* To keep up to date with technical knowledge relating to Laboratory analytical procedures and pertinent legislation and best practice.
* Responsible for maintaining a flexible approach to working practices and responding to the needs of the laboratory to produce a smooth, efficient and cost effective service.
* Responsible for facilitating team motivation by promoting and supporting the development of team colleagues through coaching and mentoring within the team.
* Assist in monitoring key processes that affect team performance and ensure progress against team objectives to maintain/improve efficiency.
Knowledge and Skills
* HNC / Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject
* Qualified quality systems auditor
* Membership of relevant professional organisation preferable.
* Thorough understanding of Health and Safety requirements for the laboratory.
* Computer literate
* Problem solving skills.
* Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
* Planning and organising skills.
* Strong customer focus.
* Financial awareness.
* Working knowledge of Laboratory business, systems and processes.
