Starting Salary: £48056 - £56345 per annum plus benefits To find out more about the job please click the ‘apply for job’ button to be taken to Imperial job site About the role The post is part of the World Weather Attribution (WWA) initiative which has received funding from the Bezos Earth Fund to advance its mission of scientifically analysing the link between human-induced climate change and extreme weather events. In particular, WWA aims to develop regionally appropriate new methodologies to assess wildfires, which are inherently complex events influenced by multiple variables and currently remain challenging for rapid attribution. Since its inception, the mission of the CEP has been to conduct policy-focused fundamental and applied research to solve environmental and sustainability issues. Based at CEP, World Weather Attribution (WWA) initiative, is a collaboration between climate scientists at Imperial College London, KNMI in the Netherlands, climate impact specialists at the Red Cross / Red Crescent Climate Centre (RCCC), and a large global network of other scientists. Led by Dr Fredi Otto, WWA was founded to provide rapid and robust assessments on the role of climate change in the aftermath of an extreme weather event. Its aim is to provide timely scientific evidence to better understand how climate change impacts weather today. In this role, you will work with the WWA team to carry out attribution studies and methodological studies to improve and develop the attribution of wildfires in particular and contribute to other attribution studies. In addition, you are expected to interact with stakeholders from various sectors, including lawyers, journalists and other relevant groups. What you would be doing Your key responsibilities will include: Applying, developing and implementing methods for attribution analyses of extreme events with a focus on wildires Actively participate in and lead the scientific activities of the WWA team Contribute to the scientific development of risk assessment in the context of extreme weather Explore further opportunities for novel research on climate uncertainties, risk assessment and attribution of extreme events. Engage with stakeholders and researchers within the College and the wider community, including the financial sector.
