Offer Description
The School of Psychology at the University of Southampton is seeking to appoint a clinician for 3 days a week (one of which must be a Monday) to support education and research across our Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Dclin).
You will be part of an innovative and dynamic clinical psychology team and contribute to postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and supervision.
The Clinical Psychology Doctoral Programme at the University of Southampton is committed to the scientist-practitioner model and is firmly rooted in the core values of the NHS Constitution. With over 30 years of experience in clinical training in partnership with local NHS Trusts and related organisations, we offer two different employment pathways: education-led or balanced across research and education. Clinical psychologists with expertise in teaching clinical skills and the aspiration to develop their research can apply to work on an education pathway, providing an opportunity to build a research portfolio that complements current research activity in the school. Alternatively, applicants with a growing national/international research track record, evidenced by publications and grant applications, can apply to work on a balanced pathway.
Our School has expertise in developmental and applied psychopathology, psychological interventions across the lifespan, and affective neuroscience. The School of Psychology at Southampton is recognised for producing world-leading, high-impact research, supported by excellent research facilities.
We are one of the largest providers of postgraduate research and clinical training in the UK, offering a range of MSc programmes (Clinical, Health, Research Methods), research doctorates (PhD), Doctoral Programmes in Clinical Psychology (DClin) and Educational Psychology (DEdPsy), and training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
We enjoy long-standing collaborations with University research groups in Medicine (Psychiatry, Primary Care), Biological Sciences (Neuroscience), Health Sciences, and Education. The Institute for Life Sciences supports further cross-disciplinary collaboration. Our strategic partnerships with NHS Trusts, schools, Government, charities, and industry deliver world-leading impact and attract significant grant income from all major research funders. The University of Southampton is one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities.
Psychology is an ambitious and successful School, ranked in the Global Top 100 (QS, 2020), as well as a friendly and positive place to work. You will join a highly collegiate and professional team who are keen to share expertise, provide mentorship, and support professional development. The School values diversity and equality, recognising that employees may wish to have working patterns that fit with their caring responsibilities or work-life balance, including part-time working. Due consideration will be given to applicants who have had career breaks for reasons including maternity, paternity or adoption leave, disability, or illness. The School of Psychology holds an Athena SWAN Bronze Award demonstrating our commitment to equal opportunities and gender balance in the workplace.
