Senior Test Development Engineer
Location - Glenrothes / Livingston, Scotland
Contract - Permanent
Hours - Fulltime 37 hrs

Primary Purpose of this position
Responsible for the design, manufacture, verification and validation, along with through life technical support of board level, sub-system and system level test equipment.
Main duties:
1. Design of functional test equipment
2. To take responsibility for the design and overall quality of the test equipment and provide leadership and guidance for junior engineers.
3. Documentation of design specifications and implementation details. Take part in design reviews. Upholding of design standards and methodologies.
4. Realisation of complex system requirements to provide robust and reliable test hardware solutions.
5. Responsibility for the complete implementation of detailed technical items and an understanding/appreciation of system level items.
6. Collaboration with other team members (including both hardware and software engineers) to agree system designs, interfaces and protocols etc.
7. Development of appropriate test hardware, test software and procedures, both informal and formal, to prove the correct operation of hardware.
8. Provide support to manufacturing answering product queries & resolving technical issues.
9. Provide support for the test hardware and manage obsolescence throughout its lifecycle.
10. Monitoring and reporting of progress of test development to immediate supervisor and development team.
11. Proactively support company compliance to Health and Safety legislation through adherence to company polices, processes and practices.
12. Ensure that all business activity is conducted in line with company values, policies and ethics codes of conduct.
13. Undertake any other activity as reasonably requested by management
14. Application of IPDS Processes
15. Accountable for engineering specific risks and opportunities.
16. Key contributor at Gate/Design reviews
17. Provides guidance of Test Development processes and tools.
18. Contribute to section/business area resource planning with a working understanding of Microsoft Project tools.
19. Test Engineering Lead for a small/medium scale test engineering program
20. Ability to identify and engage the appropriate SME's to support the Test Development Engineering activities.
21. Contributor/Approver for standard/tailored test development process including IPDS gates and content
22. Key interface to external customers/suppliers.
Knowledge & Experience:
Essential:
1. Degree qualified in Electronic Engineering/related subject (preferably at 2.1 Hons or higher).
2. Test software design experience.
3. Excellent knowledge of analogue and digital electronic circuit design.
4. Ability to write comprehensive technical design documentation.
5. Proven experience in handover and management of designs in production.
6. Excellent hardware troubleshooting skills.
7. Able to support/debug system integration
8. Good knowledge of MS Office products
9. Good communicator
10. Must be eligible for MOD Security Clearance to a minimum of SC level
Highly Desirable:
1. Significant test development experience in industry.
2. Use of Mentor Graphics schematic entry and PCB layout tools.
3. Understanding of common test architectures PXI/d LXI
4. Measurement Uncertainty and its application in test equipment design and validation
5. Software Certification or detailed knowledge of: NI LabView, NI CVI, NI TestStand, C#
6. Design of mix signal circuits
7. High speed serial networks
8. An appreciation of RF electronics
9. Knowledge of power supply design
10. SC clearance
