Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for accurately estimating costs, managing budgets, and ensuring financial control of construction projects from inception through to completion. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of construction processes, cost management, and contracts, and will collaborate with project teams to deliver cost-effective and timely results.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate cost estimates and tender documents for construction projects, including labour, materials, and equipment.
2. Budget Management: Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring costs are controlled and aligned with project goals.
3. Valuation: Conduct regular valuations of ongoing work, ensuring payments and valuations are processed in accordance with contractual terms.
4. Cost Reporting: Provide timely and accurate cost reports, forecasting final costs and identifying areas for cost-saving opportunities.
5. Contract Management: Review, prepare, and negotiate contracts, ensuring compliance with legal standards and project specifications.
6. Risk Management: Identify potential financial and contractual risks, implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.
7. Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to ensure alignment between cost estimates and project deliverables.
8. Final Accounts: Prepare and manage final accounts, ensuring the timely and accurate settlement of all costs.
To qualify, you possess a bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of experience in quantity surveying or estimation in the construction industry. You will have knowledge of contract law and standard forms of contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC) and a strong knowledge of construction processes, techniques, and materials. You must have strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels. Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, or specialised quantity surveying/estimating software) and excellent numerical and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
