As a Senior Advanced Practice Mammographer you will work autonomously and perform advanced mammography interventional procedures, including vacuum assisted biopsies, stereotactic biopsies and specialised imaging techniques, to support both screening and diagnostic services. You will work with the team to manage interventional procedure appointments, coordinate result appointments, and support results clinics to ensure a seamless patient care pathway.You will participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case reviews, contribute to patient management decisions, and engage in quality assurance activities, including auditing imaging practices and participating in service improvement projects. Additionally, you will provide expert clinical advice and guidance to the mammography team, ensuring adherence to best practices and protocols. As a leader, you will mentor and train other junior members of the team while collaborating with breast imaging consultant radiologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of developments in breast imaging, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and guidelines, including those related to radiation safety and patient confidentiality, is a key aspect of this role.Candidates who require training in Breast Interventional studies may apply and will be recruited as Trainee Advanced Practitioners and move to Band 8a after 2 years post qualification.
Main duties of the job
·Provide an exceptionally high level of expertise in the specialist clinical field of breast imaging and breast cancer diagnosis in a screening and symptomatic environment.
·Work as part of the mammographic multi-disciplinary team, performing radiographic imaging of the breast and providing a professional service of the highest quality in line with the standards and guidelines set out by the NHSBSP for screening clients and symptomatic patients of WSHT across the mobile and static units.
·Work autonomously and perform the full range of additional specialised mammographic techniques during assessment clinics, including the imaging of breast specimens, tomosynthesis, and support during localisations.
·Undertake role of Senior Advanced Practitioner in Mammography using highly advanced clinical skills in stereo core biopsies and vacuum assisted biopsies, providing clinical opinion and diagnosis for patient centred care.
·Provide mentorship, supervision and training to mammographers and trainee advanced practitioners within the service.
·Provide departmental support and lead the team members through knowledge and experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Work with the Lead Advanced Practitioner to initiate and carry out collaborative clinical research projects with the aim of developing the unit into a leader in the field of breast imaging.
2. Participate in the Departmental quality assurance and audit programmes and in implementing agreed recommendations.
·Pro-active in identifying appropriate evidence / research findings that would improve patient care and service development and, where appropriate and in agreement with
the Director and Deputy Director of Screening and Lead Advanced Practitioner ensure integration into practice.
·Audit own biopsy results and review B1 cases.
3. Perform / supervise clinical trials and audits as required.
4. Regularly conduct Mammographic Image Assessment/Technical recall in line with NHSBSP guidelines to maintain standards.
5. Regularly conduct Quality Assurance tests of equipment
6. Participate in regular client satisfaction surveys and departmental audits as required by NHSBSP Quality Assurance Management.
7. Knowledge of the Radiology PACS, CRIS and NBSS system.
8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in accordance with statutory and organisational policies and procedures.
9. Record quality assurance results for all equipment on a specialised excel spreadsheet, review results and escalate problems to the Lead Advanced Practitioner.
10. Demonstrate a substantial knowledge of all imaging equipment and the care of such equipment
11. Ensure that the Breast Screening Team fits into an effective multi-disciplinary framework with appropriate resources.
12. In association with the Lead Advanced Practitioner, be responsible for the consumable stock control necessary to support designated clinical areas, within the agreed financial limits.
13. In conjunction with the Lead Advanced Practitioner research and appraise new equipment/technology.
14. In conjunction with the Lead Advanced Practitioner, be responsible for the maintenance of medical equipment and clinical supplies.
15. Participate in the development of an acceptable learning environment within the Department.
16. Assist the Lead Advanced Practitioner in the preparation of Departmental Protocols
17. Support quality improvement initiatives that support departmental, divisional and corporate objectives, ensuring adherence to all department and UHSussex standards and Protocols
18. Work with the Lead Advanced Practitioner in formulating policies and protocols providing evidence, monitoring and reviewing against relevant national standards to influence their development.
19. Liaise with the Lead Advanced Practitioner to respond to and meet changing needs within the Trust.
20. Keep updated on new developments in the clinical aspect of the Service to ensure we comply with evidence based best practice.
21. Adhere and comply with IR(ME)R17 regulations, IRR17, HASAW regulations, COSHH and NHSBSP Guidelines.
22. Pro-active in identifying appropriate evidence / research findings that would improve patient care and service development and, where appropriate and in agreement with the Superintendent Advanced Practitioner ensure integration into practice.
23. Attend and participate at the weekly breast MDM.
24. Achieve and maintain a high standard of basic mammographic technique, supplementary and modified mammographic techniques and Tomosynthesis in both screening and symptomatic services and to work to current national standards and local protocols.
25. Undertake and record quality assurance tests for the mammography equipment as per local and national guidelines.
26. In conjunction with the Lead Advanced Practitioner collate and review redesign data, innovating and implementing solutions to ensure continuous service developments and improvements to patient services and waiting lists.
27. Ensure the safe transportation of patient information to and from screening sites in line with the recommendations of the Data Protection Act.
28. Develop and maintain, monitor and review maintenance of systems of work that ensure radiation exposure is restricted and Quality Assurance is maintained.

34. Specialist knowledge over more than one discipline/function at Masters level
