Job Title: Principal Electrical Engineer
Location: Glasgow
Employment Type: Full-Time (Hybrid - 3 days in office, 2 work from home)
Our client are expanding their UK team and seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer for the Glasgow office, supporting a variety of projects within the UK and wider EMEA region This role requires a mix of in-office work (3 days per week) and legal right to work in the UK.
In this role, you’ll lead global design teams in delivering drawings, studies, and reports, and manage design activities to ensure timely, high-quality project delivery. Projects include Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage (BESS), Waste-to-Energy, Data Centres, and grid infrastructure. You’ll focus on balance-of-plant design, grid connections, substations, and transmission systems, while also mentoring UK-based graduate engineers.
Key Role Responsibilities:
* Lead global design teams, overseeing deliverables such as drawings, single-line diagrams, studies, and reports.
* Manage project design, interface with clients, and maintain schedule adherence.
* Support renewable energy solutions like Solar PV, BESS, waste-to-energy, and data center designs, focusing on balance of plant, grid connections, substations, and transmission infrastructure.
* Contribute to proposals, bids, and the EPC tendering process.
* Mentor and guide UK-based Graduate Electrical Engineers.
Responsibilities and Expertise:
* Deliver complex engineering solutions across multiple projects.
* Conduct equipment/material research, complex calculations, and data management.
* Oversee budget, schedule, and quality, providing technical consultation.
* Extensive UK electrical project experience, particularly in HV engineering and UK Grid Code.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Essential: Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), Chartered Engineer (or working towards), leadership experience, and HV electrical design expertise.
* Desired: HV substation design, familiarity with AIS/GIS at 132kV+, knowledge of grid and auxiliary systems, power system studies, and experience with DNO/TO engagements.
* Additional Skills: Protection/control design, understanding of construction practices, and experience in tender proposal scoping and costing.
