Job title: Senior Consultant Engineer - AVC Technical Authority

What you'll be doing:
1. Provide technical leadership to ensure coherency across the AVC System of systems, across a AVC 'One Team' construct made up of BAE Submarines, BAE Air Sector and BAE Electronic Systems
2. Technical authority working closely with the Office of Chief Engineer, positioned outside the delivery streams to provide focal point for technical goodness
3. Collaborate with the team across mechanical systems, C&I equipment, HMI and software. Use technical expertise to guide approaches on model-based systems engineering and safety across the programme
4. Be responsible for the approval of requirements, design documentation and related certification for AVC Systems and Functions in accordance with company and programme processes
5. Provide technical specialist input, reviews and support into projects that are beyond immediate scope
6. Engage with a wide range of stakeholders throughout the design to ensure that the solution meets the requirements of the Royal Navy and satisfies BAE design reviews
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
7. BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent and CEng (or be able to satisfy requirements for CEng)
8. Demonstrable experience of applying systems engineering principles
9. Understanding of submarine control systems or related domain experience (e.g. high integrity control systems)
10. Experience with leading and mentoring a team
11. Stakeholder management experience
Desirable
12. Knowledge of submarine vehicle control systems such as steering and diving, trim, compensation, hover, and their operation

The Active Vehicle Control (AVC) team:
You will be part of the AVC team developing the control system for the UK's next generation submarines. This innovative approach involves adapting controls that are usually used in fly-by-wire aircraft and applying them in a marine environment. The Active Vehicle Control will oversee all major aspects of the submarines' manoeuvring capability to the highest levels of safety and reliability, like existing systems on modern air transport platforms. We offer relocation packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
