The Governors and Headteacher wish to appoint a new Head of Chemistry to lead our courses at key stages 3, 4 and 5. We are looking for an exceptional candidate to develop and deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum that is exciting, innovative and diverse.
We are ideally looking for someone to start in April 2025, but might consider a September 2025 start for the right candidate.
Hollyfield is a beautiful school with a thriving sixth form, in the Surbiton area of Outer London. Excellent transport links enable our staff and young people to take full advantage of the wealth of opportunities that London provides. We are an ambitious school that puts student achievement and wellbeing at its heart.
Hollyfield is part of the Every Child, Every Day Multi Academy Trust and we have strong relationships with our Trust partners. In March 2020 we were judged by Ofsted to be ‘good’: ‘ School leaders are keen to ensure all pupils achieve their best. Pupils respond well to leaders’ high expectations. There is a distinct sense of community in the school. Pupils grow in confidence and learn to work together well as a result.’
The trust provides excellent subject-level support and leadership CPD through the NPQ programmes. This role would be an outstanding opportunity for someone who is looking for their first middle-leadership position or for an experienced middle leader who wants to work within a supportive faculty that utilises evidence based teaching practices to drive improvement and achievement.
The successful candidate will meet the following essential criteria:
· QTS;
· a broad base of subject knowledge;
· the ability to teach across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5;
· a clear vision for a knowledge-rich curriculum;
· a clear understanding of successful classroom practice and evidence-based teaching;
· employs a range of teaching and learning strategies;
· the ability to work effectively as part of a curriculum team;
· the ability to maintain good classroom behaviour;
· effective interpersonal skills;
· able to demonstrate suitability to work with children and young people.
Science is held in high regard at The Hollyfield School and the proportion of students taking Separate Sciences is much higher than the national average. Many go on to study the three Sciences at A Level in our thriving sixth form. We are currently developing our knowledge-rich curriculum in conjunction with our partner science departments in the Trust in order to provide our students with a world class programme of study. The Science department has an excellent extra-curricular offering with trips that include an annual visit to CERN in Geneva, London Zoo, Bodyworlds and the Big Bang Fair.
Selection Process:
Candidates will be asked to demonstrate that they meet the criteria through the selection process which will include:
· Teaching an observed lesson to a full class of pupils;
· Meeting with a panel of our pupils for informal question and answer session;
· A written task analysing a Scheme of Work;
· Interview with a senior leader, Head of Science and a governor.
This role is ideal for an individual who is committed to helping our students achieve their very best. We want the best people for our roles, so while this is primarily a full time post, we recognise that sometimes those best suited to roles on offer aren’t available full time. Please talk to us about the flexibility you may need.
