What you’ll be doing
In this role, you’ll play a key part in ensuring that construction works meet the highest standards. You’ll be responsible for checking that all activities are delivered in line with contractual requirements, and for flagging any non-conformances to the Construction Superintendent. Your attention to detail and proactive mindset will be essential as you provide accurate information to support the issuance of non-conformance reports. You’ll maintain strong communication with site teams to ensure issues are reported swiftly and surveillance activities are clearly understood. Your insights will also feed into key performance indicators, helping the wider project team stay aligned and on track. Most importantly, you’ll use your experience and judgement to spot potential quality issues before they arise, enabling smart, preventative actions to keep everything moving forward smoothly.
Additional roles and responsibilities include:
* Support your team by implementing temporary measures that keep works safe and aligned with quality standards, and take proactive steps, like issuing comms or calling meetings, to avoid unnecessary stoppages.
* Make sure design decisions aren’t made on the fly; instead, guide them through the proper approval process to maintain consistency and control.
* Bring added value to the team by staying aware of both current and upcoming site activities, helping everyone stay one step ahead.
* Ensure that all tasks meet the company’s health, safety, and environmental quality standards from the outset.
* Build and maintain a strong grasp of construction drawings, site operations, Quality Control Plans, and Inspection Records so you’re always equipped to support effectively.
* Verify that all necessary Quality Inspection Records are completed and signed off before any works are concealed or progressed.
* Continuously assess contractor performance against the authorised Quality Control Plan to uphold delivery excellence.
Who you are
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a solid foundation in welding, NDT, mechanical engineering, or materials, whether through formal qualifications or vocational experience, paired with a strong understanding of the engineering construction industry. You’re someone who can juggle the demands of a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining a sharp eye for quality, safety, and standards. Your ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively with contractors, and stay organised under pressure will be essential, and any experience working within a large construction team will serve you well.
* Strong grasp of industry materials, trades, methods, and legal requirements, with working knowledge of relevant standards such as RCC-M, BS EN, and ASME.
* Experience writing clear, concise, and contract-relevant site diaries.
* Confident in inspecting welds on large construction projects and knowledgeable about safety-critical documentation like Inspection and Test Plans and End of Erection Status Reports.
* Able to build and maintain effective relationships with contractors to ensure delivery standards are met.
* Detail-oriented when checking work and materials, and committed to upholding high quality standards.
* Experience in the fabrication and installation of pressure systems and, where relevant, structural steel or civil/mechanical interfaces.
* Basic understanding of NDT techniques, with advanced welding or inspection qualifications (e.g. CSWIP 3.1/3.2, IWS, PCN) considered a strong advantage.
* Background in large-scale power plant design, construction, or manufacture is desirable.
* French language skills are a bonus and can support communication across international teams.
* Knowledge of Quality Management methods, tools, and documentation best practices.
