We are looking to recruit a Community Staff Nurse to join our enthusiastic and innovative School Nursing team.
We welcome applicants who are trained nurses with experience in working with children and families as well as newly qualified nurses who have a keen interest in School Health.
Applicants should be committed to team working and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Successful applicants will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team of school health staff who will work with children, young people, and families to identify relevant health needs and ensure these are addressed in line with the approved service pathways.
Main Duties of the Job
* Work within the allocated district supported by the School Nurse to assess the health needs of individual children and the school population.
* Support other districts within the team as needed.
* Proactively address factors affecting health to ensure children and young people achieve the best possible outcomes.
* Work with vulnerable children and families to reduce the risks of social exclusion and health inequalities.
The successful candidates must have:
* Nursing qualification and be on the NMC register.
* Experience of working in the community or in a Paediatric post and knowledge of child development, health promotion, public health, and safeguarding children would be an advantage but not essential.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
* Work as a member of the Birmingham School Health Support Service undertaking work delegated by the SCPHN and/or Team Leader.
* Plan and deliver care for identified health needs and evaluate care plans at regular intervals.
* Complete health care plans for children and young people with medical conditions in school, liaising with specialist nurses and GPs as needed.
* Deliver medical needs training to school staff using approved teaching packages from Birmingham School Health Support Service.
* Engage in multi-agency working as appropriate.
* Carry out home visits and work within wider community settings as directed.
* Attend and participate in staff meetings and other meetings as directed.
* Work to Birmingham Safeguarding Children Board policies and procedures.
* Adhere to BCHC record-keeping guidelines.
* Mentor and assess pre-registration student nurses on placement within the team.
* Support the induction of new team members.
* Participate in clinical audit as required.
* Undertake drop-in sessions for young people in schools or community settings.
* Work flexibly including evenings and occasional weekends to meet service needs.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSc Nursing degree or relevant healthcare subject.
Experience
* Evidence of recent professional development.
* Experience of team working.

Skills/Knowledge
* Sound knowledge of up-to-date evidence-based clinical trends and practice.
* Knowledge of current public health and health promotion issues pertinent to community children’s services.
* Knowledge and application of the NMC Code of Conduct.

* Ability to generate relevant, concise, accurate, and legible written communication.
