An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 Nurse to join the Lung cancer team at Wye Valley NHS Trust.
The Post holder will work as part of the Lung Cancer Team to provide clinical expertise, specialist advice and support across service boundaries and will act as a key worker for patients with or suspected to have lung cancer.
The post holder will meet the personal specification of the job description and also have obtained or be willing to work towards The Principles of Lung Cancer modules at Band 7.
This post may be suitable for an experienced Band 6 who wishes to develop their skills and would consider a developmental post.
Main duties of the job
1. To work alongside the existing Lung cancer CNS, to provide a high level of specialist knowledge to patients, their families and other health care professionals.
2. Providing pre-diagnosis support, streamlining investigations to meet patients' needs and national targets.
3. To work closely with Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) coordinator to ensure efficient & effective running of MDT meetings. Present patients to the Multi-Disciplinary Team, ensuring a holistic assessment and contributing to the diagnosis.
4. Communicate the outcome of multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings to patients, providing support and information (both verbal and written) at the time of diagnosis and throughout the disease process. Ensuring continuity as patient's care moves between teams and sites and updating communications to patient journey.
5. Support the lung cancer pathways, ensuring implementation of the pathways.
6. To facilitate the virtual thoracic surgery clinics (twice monthly) for patients referred for surgical diagnostic procedures and surgical resection as treatment.

Education & Qualifications
Essential
* Registered Nurse with relevant degree or equivalent.
* Prepared to undertake post registration qualification within speciality or equivalent.
* Non-Medical Prescriber or Clinical Assessment qualification.
Desirable
* Previous Pleural or procedure training.
* Advance Communication Qualification.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Essential
* Excellent verbal and written communication.
* Ability to manage own time and prioritise.
* Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
* Computer literate.
Desirable
* Knowledge of palliative &/or oncology care.
