Job Role: Structural Engineer
Salary: £35,000 - £65,000 + package depending on level of experience
Location: Manchester or other office locations considered.
About the role:
Our client is looking to strengthen their design team with an experienced Structural Engineer based in one of their key offices: Manchester, Midlands, London or Northern Ireland.
You will report directly to the Structures Lead and your role will provide superior quality Engineering Design services to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering services contracts. In order to ensure this, the individual must coordinate the design and produce Structural design documents and drawings, taking into account health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards pertaining to the contract.
You will:
1. Produce structural design calculations for all aspects of Water Treatment and Sewage Treatment plants, including both new builds and modifications to existing plants.
2. Review the structural content of construction drawings/models.
3. Review subcontract design proposals.
4. Ensure all work is considered for buildability, standardization, and DfMA, and for safety on site, complying with CDM regulations.
5. Design reinforced concrete and steelwork to all relevant Eurocodes and British Standards.
6. Coordinate and liaise within a multi-discipline organization, including construction oversight and site support.
7. Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the discipline.
8. Plan resources and be responsible for project delivery within budget and program.
9. Coordinate designs with other disciplines and use resources both internal and external.
10. Provide support to civil design staff.
11. Help develop junior staff.
12. Ensure designs take account of environmental issues.
13. Assist in improving processes and procedures.
Essential skills:
1. Strong structural engineering design background, including technical detailing for Water Treatment and Sewage Treatment Projects.
2. A proven track record of structural engineering within the water sector with a desire to work in a design and build environment.
3. Good knowledge of structural analysis and ability to use Microsoft Excel and design software such as StaadPro and Tekla TEDDS.
4. Degree qualified in Civil and/or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
5. Membership of a relevant professional institution.
6. Good track record for the design of water-retaining structures to construction standard using Eurocodes.
7. Good working knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety.
This role is office-based but may require some traveling within the UK occasionally.
Desirable skills:
1. Chartered or nearing chartership.
2. Experience of working for a global organization.
3. Experience of working with remote/dispersed teams.
4. Experience in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Industry.
5. Ability to embrace collaborative and innovative working.
6. Knowledge of BIM procedures and techniques.
7. Wider experience of structural design across the construction industry.
