AUSTRAC, Australia’s financial intelligence agency, is evolving to strengthen its fight against money laundering and terrorism financing.
AUSTRAC’s Enforcement Team investigates serious and/or systemic non-compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 and takes formal enforcement action in response to identified breaches.
Enforcement action can include civil penalty proceedings, infringement notices, and administrative actions such as remedial directions requiring entities to take specified action to ensure compliance. In criminal investigations, it includes making referrals to and supporting the Director of Public Prosecutions.
AUSTRAC’s Enforcement team is looking for a Manager with significant skills and experience in one or more of the following areas: regulatory compliance, investigations, or enforcement.

* Qualifications – Tertiary qualifications in law, finance, justice, or similar fields, as well as familiarity with government investigations are highly desirable but not essential.
* Identify, Analyse and Assess Compliance Issues – Applies intellectual rigour and knowledge to understand, analyse, and evaluate complex and critical compliance issues.
* Investigate and Gather Evidence – Leads the collection and analysis of information relevant to investigations into potential non-compliance and implementation of risk-based solutions.
* Apply Legislation and Exercise Statutory Powers – Understands and applies the correct legislation relevant to the situation under consideration to solve complex statutory interpretation issues.
Key Duties
Under broad direction of Director, Enforcement, the Manager will be responsible for the following duties:
* Managing the development and implementation of key strategies, policies, and procedures and providing advice to senior management to enable the effective enforcement of compliance with the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (the AML/CTF Act).
* Conducting or managing the detailed analysis of complex data sets to identify issues of concern and/or gather evidence relating to contraventions of the AML/CTF Act. Applying that analysis to making recommendations about the nature and extent of any non-compliance.
* Exercising professional judgement in enforcement matters.
* Contributing to the achievement of wider agency business and strategic goals. Representing AUSTRAC in external forums and liaising with external and internal stakeholders in building and maintaining networks.
* Exercising approved delegations in accordance with legal and other requirements.
* Modelling the professional work standards and behaviours detailed in the APS Values, Employment Principles, and Code of Conduct.

* Will need to obtain and maintain an ongoing Baseline Clearance.
