Job Summary: To direct Camberley Youth for Christ as it seeks to give young people in the Surrey Heath area the opportunity to discover and follow Jesus through serving, building relationships, and teaching them to rely on God. This means working under the direction of the trustees, strategically leading and motivating staff and volunteers to ensure that Camberley Youth for Christ’s mission to young people is fully resourced and carried out to the highest standard, with a commitment to building positive partnerships with individuals, churches, and organizations.
It is important for you to have a living and vibrant relationship with Jesus, to be spending daily time with Him and setting an example for others.
Weekly Hours: 37.5 hours per week. There will be some occasional evening and weekend work. Where you have gone over your hours, you will be able to take TOIL.
Contract: Permanent (on successful completion of a probationary period).
Pay: £28,000 - £32,000 - depending on experience
Place of Work: The office at Kings International College (Camberley, GU15 2PQ). The role will require travel between different schools, churches, and partner organizations (mileage will be reimbursed).
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To be responsible for implementing Camberley Youth for Christ’s mission of bringing the Good News relevantly to every young person in the Surrey Heath area.
2. To be responsible for staff and volunteers directly, keeping the Trustees appropriately appraised of initiatives, issues, and progress through meetings and regular written reports.
3. To be responsible for the development and oversight of the work, providing strategic vision and leadership, together with training and support for staff and volunteers.
4. To actively lead and develop Camberley Youth for Christ’s school ministry, such as assemblies, lessons, lunchtime clubs, Christian Unions, and pastoral support.
5. To actively lead church and community partnership ministry, such as the POINT (monthly youth gathering) and residentials like the Youth Weekend Away and Satellites festival.
6. To raise awareness of Camberley Youth for Christ among churches, individuals, and other interested parties, seeking to inspire prayer, volunteering, and financial support.
CENTRE MANAGEMENT:
1. To develop, with the Trustees, the direction of Camberley Youth for Christ and facilitate the implementation of a sustainable strategy that ensures its vision and values are realized.
2. To work with the Trustees in supporting and developing Camberley Youth for Christ systems of management such as staff recruitment and appraisals, gap year mentoring, and volunteer training.
3. To support the admin relating to the Centre and supervise the staff and volunteers.
FINANCIAL AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:
1. To ensure that Camberley Youth for Christ is suitably resourced with personnel and physical resources and be responsible for creating and leading a fundraising team to help generate appropriate levels of income.
2. To work closely with the treasurer to produce the annual report for the Charity Commission and to prepare short and long-term budgets.
3. To arrange fundraising activities and write grant applications, seeking appropriate advice and expertise when necessary.
COMMUNICATION, LINKS AND PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT:
1. To work with the team and our strategic church partners in developing the ‘going deeper’ model of work so that young people can be drawn into a life and community of Christian faith.
2. To develop established systems of communications that ensure that the Camberley Youth for Christ supporter base is informed and encouraged by what is taking place and inspired to be more involved.
3. To ensure that Camberley Youth for Christ continues to be an organization that seeks to work in active partnership with National Youth for Christ.
4. To maintain and raise the reputation/awareness of Camberley Youth for Christ through positive and professional engagements and networks.
5. To actively contact and network with local churches, which includes occasional preaching and speaking on behalf of Camberley Youth for Christ.
6. To support and mentor local paid and volunteer church workers.
HEALTH & SAFETY:
1. To be responsible for the Health & Safety of all Camberley Youth for Christ staff and volunteers.
2. To ensure all Camberley Youth for Christ events and activities are suitably risk assessed and that required control measures are in place.
3. To ensure that any accident or incident is investigated, recorded, and where appropriate that the findings are reported to the appropriate people.
GENERAL:
1. To contribute to the vision and ministry of Camberley Youth for Christ by upholding and demonstrating our values.
2. To always work within Camberley Youth for Christ’s policies.
3. To receive regular supervision and annual appraisals.
4. To attend training days and conferences relevant to youth ministry including the annual Youth for Christ conference, Focus days, and cluster meetings.
5. To arrange regular prayer meetings.
6. To undertake other duties appropriate to the post, as assigned by the Trustees.
7. To actively promote equality and diversity in the workplace and youth work of Camberley Youth for Christ.
Summary Terms and Conditions:
There is a six-month probationary period. The nature of the work is flexible, and while the majority of your work will be undertaken during a normal working day, there is a requirement that you are able to commit to some evening and weekend work. Where you go over your 37.5 hours, you will be entitled to take TOIL (time off in lieu).
The holiday entitlement is 25 days per year plus 8 bank holidays. These must be agreed in advance with the Chair of Trustees.
The Director will be eligible for our chosen pension scheme (NEST). Camberley Youth for Christ will contribute 8% and the employee 5%.
As the work will include working with young people in an unsupervised capacity, the successful candidate will be subject to screening regarding police records.
The post holder’s permission is required for a Disclosure and Barring Service check (refusal means that the application will not be considered further) and the job will be offered subject to satisfactory references and DBS clearance.
There is an Occupational Requirement (OR) that the role holder is a Christian in accordance with the Employment Equality (Religion and Belief) Regulations 2010.
