Job Introduction
At Tarmac we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operations Manager to join our team located in the Tarmac T3 Office, Solihull. Playing a pivotal role in driving the recovery, recycling, and reuse of waste and by-products, as part of our Circularity Strategy. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about sustainability, operational excellence, and environmental impact.
The Operations Manager will be accountable for the day-to-day safe operation of our sites, focusing on achieving production targets, managing costs, ensuring health, safety, and environmental compliance, and motivating and leading a high-performing team. The role offers the opportunity to work across multiple sites while contributing to the development of new operational locations in line with our growth strategy.

Role Responsibility
1. Waste Management: Oversee the procurement of waste into existing landfill, recovery, and recycling sites, ensuring compliance with environmental, quality, and legislative standards while meeting volume, price, and profit targets.
2. Innovation & Strategy: Drive the Circular Economy Solutions agenda by identifying new waste streams and sustainable opportunities for recycling and landfill. Lead the project management of new sites from planning to operational launch.
3. People Management: Lead site-based teams, foster an inclusive and positive culture, and implement succession planning for key roles. Champion health and safety, striving for Zero Harm and Zero Incidents.
4. Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and maintain profitable relationships with internal teams, customers, contractors, and third parties. Provide technical support and engage with stakeholders, including joint venture partners and regulatory bodies.
5. Financial Management: Achieve budgeted volumes and profit targets, ensuring that recycling activities are cost-effective and profitable. Address any invoice queries and customer complaints promptly.
6. Compliance & Reporting: Ensure full compliance with environmental permits, waste acceptance procedures, and quality management systems. Contribute to maintaining ISO 14001 accreditation.
The Ideal Candidate
To succeed in this role, you will have:

6. Professional Experience: Proven experience in waste management, site management, or land development, ideally within the construction or materials sector.
7. Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of waste management principles, sustainable development, reclamation of mineral workings, and environmental legislation.
8. Relevant Qualifications: WAMITAB certification or similar, with competency in waste management, environmental law, and safe, productive handling of recycled materials.
