The Service Wells Road is a registered care home that provides long-term accommodation for people with learning disabilities and autism, between the ages of 50 and 75; some of our residents also struggle with mental health. Our lovely home is situated in Mapperley, Nottingham, in a quiet street with easy access to public transport, just a 10-minute bus ride away from Victoria Centre. Every day we do all we can to help our service users be as independent as possible by working together as a team and having their best interests at the heart of everything we do. We are looking for a motivated team player to come and join our family of friendly colleagues. The Role As a Support Worker, your role will involve helping service users to live as independently as possible. The life of a Support Worker for learning disabilities includes supporting service users with personal care, day trips out, playing games, sensory experiences and even watching the odd movie In addition to this, some of your main duties will include but are not limited to: Supporting with visits to health appointments Administrating medication Providing emotional support Supporting and encouraging engagement in learning opportunities Providing support with personal care including washing, bathing, dressing and feeding service users - full training is provided Assisting service users with domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning and laundry Using wheelchairs and other equipment as required by each service user - full training is provided Please note that due to the needs of our service users, there may be elements of moving & handling and risk management involved in the role; as such, you will need to be willing and able to undertake these duties. Residents are at the heart of everything we do, so we want someone who is caring, resilient and is eager to support our service users explore their likes and hobbies, offering opportunities for nourishment wherever possible. Creativity is welcomed in this role, as our service users enjoy doing arts and crafts to pass the time; if this is not in your skill set, a nice cup of tea and a chat will also work wonders for all our residents, for this, we would love to hear from candidates who have a good sense of humour whilst remaining tactful. As previously mentioned, candidates must be willing to provide personal care. Experience working with people with learning disabilities is desired but not essential so please, don't let this put you off from applying - we look for personal values that align with NCHA's CLEAR values. To be successful in this role you will: Be positive and enthusiastic in your role, modelling our CLEAR values Be willing and eager to learn and attend all the training required Be able to handle sometimes challenging situations and be resilient Have the ability to read, follow and record written instructions and information accurately, and communicate in a clear, friendly and professional manner Be a competent IT user - this includes using Microsoft Word, sending emails and updating records in systems (training for our systems will be provided) Working Hours and Shift patterns This role involves a variety of shift patterns between the times of 7.00am to 9.45pm, including sleep ins and waking nights for which an additional payment is made, weekends and bank holidays.
