Renishaw’s Engineering Technology Centre (ETC) is responsible for the early-stage research and development of boundary-pushing concepts, systems, solutions, technologies, and products.
We’re a small team of creative, multidisciplinary individuals looking to recruit a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to join a team developing a novel concept in machine automation.
As a Senior Mechatronics Engineer within the ETC, you’ll focus on integrating concept-enabling mechatronic solutions with other systems. You’ll have opportunities to take on a broad range of blue-sky development activities, which will enable you to contribute to existing and future projects.
About the role
1. Research, develop and assemble mechatronic and automation systems to interact with new and existing systems
2. Support the development of early-stage prototypes, including testing, bug-fixing and problem solving, feeding back results to improve system designs
3. Contribute to team ideation, suggesting and evaluating novel approaches and helping to implement solutions for new products
About you
4. Qualified to degree level in an Engineering, Mechatronics, Physical Sciences, Mathematics, or a related discipline, or having equal demonstrable experience
5. Proven experience applying mechatronics knowledge to automation systems within a similar, complex engineering environment
6. Hands-on experience of developing or using automation systems/equipment (PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), robotics, servo drives, pneumatics, interlocks etc.)
7. Practical mechanical workshop experience. E.g., turning, milling, modelmaking
8. Proficiency in electrical assembly and testing methods. E.g., cable termination, electrical panel wiring, PCB (Printed Circuit Board) assembly, use of electrical test equipment
9. Software development experience in C#, Python, Modern C++, or MATLAB/Octave
10. Experience with using CAD (Computer Aided Design) software, E.g., Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Catia.
11. Experience in implementing real-time control systems, including safety critical elements and hardware interfaces.
Person specification
As a Mechatronics Engineer at Renishaw, you’ll be driven to demonstrate solutions via physical prototypes. You’ll also be keen to broaden your knowledge and learn new technologies, to be able to share these learnings with a variety of engineering teams. You’ll show motivation and willingness to put forward and independently research completely new systems, ideas, and solutions.
