Residential Support Worker – Restricted Advert This is an exciting time to join Durham County Council’s Children’s Residential Services as we expand our service provision in order to provide the best outcomes for children and young people in County Durham. The Role We are excited to offer recent learners who have completed the Routeway into Working in Children’s Residential Services course, an opportunity to be considered for a Residential Support Worker position. This role is designed for post holders to develop knowledge, skills and build experience by working in our Children’s Homes or Aycliffe Secure Centre, with support to prepare and develop for a Residential Worker level post. The contract offered is temporary for 12 months from the post start date as part of a training programme. Skills You will be expected to engage with the young people in a range of activities, building relationships and meeting their day-to-day needs. You will learn and develop the skills and knowledge to work as part of a multi-agency team to safeguard the young people. You will be a positive role model for vulnerable young people supporting them within a Residential, Secure or Short break provision. You will support young people to have positive outcomes within their lives and aspirations for their future. You should be emotionally resilient, reliable and flexible in your approach to work. Required Qualifications: Completion of Sector-Based Academy Programme Willingness to undertake and complete L2 qualifications in Maths and English during the support worker role in preparation for progression (if you do not hold GCSE’s in Maths and English or equivalent) Willingness to work towards an apprenticeship Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare qualification subject to progression to a Residential Worker position The successful applicant for this post will be required to apply for a Disclosure & Barring Service Enhanced Disclosure. The nature of shift patterns enables a level of flexibility for employees. The salary for the post is Grade 5 with corresponding salary from £25,584 - £27,711 plus enhancements which include time and a third for unsociable hours and overtime.
