Position: Room Leader (Nursery Teacher) Location: Islington Hours: 40 hours per week Holiday: 28 days, including bank holidays Salary: £25,000 – £30,000 per annum Job Description SOC: 2315 We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for a dedicated and enthusiastic Room Leader. As a Room Leader, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day running of a designated room, working closely with the Nursery Manager and other staff to ensure the best possible care and education for children aged 0-5. Requirements A full and relevant Level 3 (or above) qualification in Early Years Education. Two satisfactory, relevant references. A satisfactory Enhanced DBS Disclosure. Relevant skills and experience to support the management of a nursery, following the ethos, implementation, and legal requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Reggio Emilia approach, and the client’s own curriculum. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Support of the Manager 2. Lead the running of a designated room and support the Nursery Manager in all aspects of nursery operations. 3. Be familiar with all policies and procedures, as well as the roles of the Manager and other staff members, and manage the room with minimal input from the Manager. 4. Liaise between staff and the Manager to ensure smooth communication and operations. Statutory Requirements Ensure the nursery complies with the EYFS Statutory Framework, relevant health and safety laws, and employment regulations. Promote and follow good practice as set out in the EYFS Practice Guidance. Attendance – Ensure that a Manager or Room Leader is always present during nursery hours, with a focus on high attendance due to the seniority of the role. Attitude and Professionalism Demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm, loyalty, and motivation while adhering to the correct policies and ethos. Act as a role model for staff, promoting equality, professionalism, and a positive environment. The Children Ensure the safety, welfare, and happiness of the children in the nursery at all times. Ensure access to resources, equipment, activities, and learning opportunities to support children’s development. Be proactive in supporting children with special needs and ensure appropriate action is taken to promote their welfare and development. Maintain high standards of care and lead by example, excelling in the responsibilities of an Early Years Practitioner. Administration Support the organisation of the nursery and assist the Manager with staff rotas, ensuring staff ratios are maintained. Oversee efficient use of resources, including staff, cover staff, and financial resources. Organise and manage the Keyperson system and staff deployment within your designated room. Premises Ensure the cleanliness, tidiness, and appropriate atmosphere of the nursery. Report any maintenance needs and monitor the condition of equipment and facilities. Parents and Communication Develop strong relationships with parents, ensuring they are informed and satisfied with the nursery’s service. Communicate policies, practices, and developments effectively to parents, and resolve concerns promptly. Maintain regular communication with parents about their child’s progress and development. Early Years Foundation Stage and Children’s Activities Oversee the planning, organisation, and execution of children’s activities, ensuring they are age-appropriate and aligned with the EYFS framework. Ensure accurate assessments and records of children’s development, in line with Ofsted requirements. Staff Leadership Provide leadership to staff, ensuring they maintain professional standards and adhere to the nursery’s policies and procedures. Assist with the recruitment, induction, training, and performance management of staff. Support staff development, motivation, and discipline, ensuring the smooth running of the nursery. Records and Documentation Ensure accurate maintenance of nursery records, such as registers, accident books, and group files. New Bookings and Visitors Meet visitors and provide tours of the nursery, ensuring the ethos and values of the nursery are communicated effectively. Assist with enquiries from outside agencies, ensuring a positive impression is made at all times. Planning and Development Attend regular staff meetings and management team meetings, as well as relevant training courses. Participate in policy development and contribute ideas to improve the nursery’s operations. Person Specification A full and relevant Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education. Two satisfactory, relevant references and a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Disclosure. Experience in working with children aged 0-5 years. Ability to support the Nursery Manager in all administrative aspects of nursery operations. Excellent understanding of children’s development, needs, and positive play. Ability to provide high-quality early education and childcare, in line with the EYFS. Experience in supervising and supporting staff, including involvement in recruitment, training, and performance management. Ability to work with parents and external agencies to support children with additional needs. A commitment to equal opportunities and promoting a positive learning environment. Ability to lead by example and provide a role model for staff. A willingness to attend training and staff meetings as directed.
