About this client/child: Josh, 12, is a cheeky, sociable and fun-loving chap with a sparky personality. He lives at home in Romsey with his Mum, Dad and 3 younger siblings; this is a busy family home! Josh is always up for a laugh and is great fun to be around. He has a long list of hobbies and interests and loves to be out and about making the most of the great places, clubs and activities in his local area and beyond. At home, he loves to bake or play in the garden on his swing and trampoline. Josh has Cerebral Palsy, is a wheelchair user, has epilepsy (controlled via medication) and a PEG in situ to top up his nutrition (he loves his food and enjoys a blended diet), fluid and medication. He uses Eye Gaze to support his expressive language and overall communication. Josh’s home is fully adapted to meet all his needs. Josh’s dedicated, friendly and supportive care team is managed by a Team Leader, and all work in collaboration with his parents, and other healthcare professionals.
Overview of role: The SEN Support Worker will assist Josh with his established afterschool routine. The role involves working alongside another team member on a 2:1 basis supporting Josh with aspects of his health, care and medical plan. It includes manual handling and supporting transitions (hoisting), providing personal care, implementing therapy programmes and exercises following the guidance of Josh’s therapist, and planning and participating in extra-curricular activities. Full training is provided, therefore you do not need to come to this role with years of experience. Additional hours are available during school holidays and weekends if desirable.
Who this job would suit: A fun-loving, engaging, enthusiastic and proactive person who loves to laugh, and has a passion for working with children. Josh can wrap everyone around his little finger, so he needs someone who is firm, fair but positive and bubble. Personality fit is key, Josh needs to be able to build up a bond and relationship with all his team.
What’s great about this job: You will be joining a fabulous team; you will have continuous support from your colleagues. There is a comprehensive on-boarding process, with on-going support from Noah’s case manager, and his lovely family. If you want to make a difference in supporting an incredible, voraciously determined young boy, and if you feel you are the right person to join Josh’s team, then please do apply.
