We are currently seeking a highly motivated Legal Counsel to join our growing legal team. Working closely with and under the guidance of our Legal Director, you will provide comprehensive legal support across the UK Group, ensuring that our projects continue to run smoothly and in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
The role & responsibilities:
* Drafting and negotiating construction, engineering and infrastructure contracts, consultant appointments, sub-consultant appointments, and other construction documentation.
* Advising on general commercial contracts across the business with a particular focus on supporting IT and digital.
* Assist in providing legal and professional support on a range of legal matters when required.
* Assist legal director in managing outside counsel and third party suppliers, such as insurers and brokers.
* Support the construct and oversight of a legal risk management program, inclusive of the construct and oversight of an anti-bribery and client due diligence program.
* A willingness and ability to deliver legal and compliance training on selected topics where required by the business.
* Participate and assist in non-technical audits across the business.
* Ensure that relevant documents are filed in Legal Department database / folders.
* Advising and supporting on wider commercial issues where the business requires it.
* Advising on the management of high-value/high-risk contracts.
* Monitoring for and advising the business on new and proposed UK legislation, regulation and guidance.
* Support the implementation of new business processes.
* Support a collaborative and proactive relationship with other group businesses where required and attend any required meetings to support wider commercial issues under the guidance of the legal director / company secretary and managing director.

We’d like to hear from you if you have:
* Sound legal and commercial experience.
* Good organisational qualities and an ability to work on numerous tasks concurrently.
* Experience of advising on/negotiating/drafting/managing commercial contracts (ideally in the professional services sector) across multiple jurisdictions.
* Financial control, management and reporting experience desirable.
* Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively with multiple business functions.
* Experience of rigorous analysis of complex issues as well as proven delivery of pragmatic solutions to problems.
* An incisive, open-minded and strategic thinker who can diplomatically and effectively resolve issues.
* A natural communicator who is able to present ideas articulately and openly; with the ability to effectively influence people at all levels.
* In addition to first class technical legal skills, the successful candidate will possess strong business acumen and judgement, being able to effectively switch between legal and business requirements.
* Knowledge of current and emerging legislation.
* The ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate their experience, competency and flexibility to meet the demands of the role.
* Ability to work calmly under pressure and cope with peak work loads.
* Capability to prioritise workload without supervision.
* Confidence in dealing with and talking to people at all levels.
* Written communication skills to produce succinct correspondence.
* Sensitivity and discretion are crucial.
* Previous experience working in a fast-growing, agile, adaptable commercial environment preferred and in-house experience desirable, but not essential.
* A willingness to operate out of his/her comfort zone and a willingness to play a proactive role in developing the legal function.
* Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Law or Legal Practice Course qualification/equivalent with ICSA qualification / part qualification beneficial.
* 3-6 years PQE (aptitude and personality culture-fit will be given significantly greater weight over PQE in assessment) as a lawyer, legal executive, contracts manager or senior paralegal or equivalent with commercial contracts experience, preferably in the construction consultancy industry.
