The Quantity Surveyor's role’s purpose is to own the commercial management of multiple projects and workstreams on major projects, working closely with project managers and design managers to ensure successful delivery of projects on time and to budget. This role supports the control of both internal and external commercial aspects of projects across a range of contractual arrangements.
Responsibilities:
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be involved in all aspects of commercial delivery across a wide range of projects. Reporting to the Head of Commercial, you will:
* Be the commercial lead on a project to maximize our margin, reduce cost, and increase timely cash collection.
* Assist in all processes required to safely deliver our works while maintaining compliance with company procedures and policies.
* Take responsibility for accepting budget & tender data from successful tenders into the Company accounting/Reporting System.
* Prepare the monthly project reports from the Company accounting/Reporting System.
* Prepare the monthly Applications and Invoicing to ensure timely submission of accurate documents aimed at maximizing the company’s financial position.
* Notify your client early of any increased project value or delay to project completion.
* Meet with your client’s commercial representative on a monthly basis to discuss certificates.
* Collect cash and pursue certificates from clients in a timely manner to maximize the company’s cash flow position.
* Input Applications and invoices accurately onto the company accounts system including payment certificates.
* Produce accurate cash flow forecasts weekly.
* Raise PO requisitions, GRN, and Off Hiring of plant equipment on the company accounting system (where necessary) to ensure accurate cost information on projects.
* Ensure accurate inputting of Sub-Contractor Certificates on the company accounting system.
* Administer Sub-Contracts correctly, to the benefit of the company at all times.
* Manage project correspondence and notify the Project Manager of any contentious project correspondence.
* Support the bidding team in estimating, tendering, and planning of new projects.
* Identify and record change control opportunities and input change control items to the company accounting system.
* Provide and copy substantiation for project change and/or costs.
* Meet with your client monthly to discuss agreement and levels of substantiation required to close out change control items.
* Escalate at an early stage where clients are obstructive toward agreeing any change control issues.
* Administer the Company accounting/Reporting system accurately and in a timely manner.
* Manage, coach, motivate, and educate any staff placed under your charge.
* Act in a professional manner toward internal and external contacts in keeping with the company’s reputation and image.
* Compile and close out Final Accounts.
* Ensure your project team understands the Contract conditions and requirements.
* Collate necessary information for financial audits on your projects.
What you will need to be successful:
* Energetic, positive person with a wish to solve problems, comply with procedures, and develop their knowledge and understanding.
* Preferably educated to degree level in a relevant quantity surveying/commercial management discipline.
* Proven record of commercial role within live construction projects.
* Sound contract knowledge and experience interpreting contract documents and advising operations teams on best practice and legal requirements.
* Good IT literacy and experience using the Microsoft Office suite.
* Good organization and record-keeping.
* Good communicator with the ability and desire to challenge ways of thinking where it suits the business.
