Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with an international company that operates across highly regulated sectors including Civil Nuclear and has a strong presence and history of delivery at nuclear sites in the UK and internationally. They are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to be responsible for the delivery of design and engineering to meet the requirements of the technical specification.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Reporting to the Principal Engineer or the Project Engineering Manager you will:
1. Develop designs to satisfy technical specifications.
2. Potentially lead teams for the full delivery lifecycle, including Design, Specification, Procurement, Supply/Manufacture Liaison, Installation, Acceptance Testing, Commissioning, and Operator Training in Nuclear Engineering Projects.
3. Produce and approve deliverables throughout the delivery process.
4. Contribute to design and safety reviews.
5. Ensure quality and timely delivery of design documentation throughout all phases of the design process.
6. Comply with safety legislation and statutory regulations.
7. Develop cost-effective technical solutions.
8. Help to develop staff and manage contractors.
9. Provide technical consultancy.
Professional Qualifications:
We are looking for someone with the following:
1. Degree qualified in a relevant technical/engineering discipline or demonstrable experience.
2. Working towards, or already have, Chartership in a discipline-specific engineering institution.
3. Previous experience of working within the nuclear industry (this is desirable but not essential if transferable skills are demonstrated).
4. Proven track record of successfully delivering design solutions within a highly regulated industry.
5. Understanding of the requirements to support safety-led designs and associated regulatory compliance.
6. Good understanding of wider industry safety legislation and statutory regulations.
7. Understanding of modern delivery practices, for example, BIM compliance, RIBA/BSRIA design delivery stage gates, etc.
8. Experience of bid preparation would be desirable.
9. Ideally with an understanding of Nuclear Industry Design Substantiation.
