Senior Piping & Plant Layout Design Engineer
Central London or Milton Keynes – 3 days per week in office, 2 days per week from home
Multiple Senior Piping and Plant Layout Design Engineers are required on both an outside IR35 contract basis and a permanent staff basis for major energy transition, olefins, refinery and petrochemical projects located in both domestic and international markets.
The role requires extensive experience in piping and plant layout, design associated with oil and gas projects with a detailed understanding/experience of the activities and deliverables to execute project work.
As the Senior Piping and Plant Layout Design Engineer, you will be working independently in your discipline or assisting other piping designers working in the team.
To execute scopes of work through Pre FEED, FEED and EPC projects.
As the Senior Piping and Plant Layout Design Engineer, you will be based in Milton Keynes and/or London office with potential for travel globally.
Responsible/Key Activities:
* Responsible for developing plot plans, equipment layouts and pipe routing drawings and models.
* Develop and deliver plant layout drawings from initial concept through to detailed design.
* Adhere to and support development of discipline, project specifications, corporate specifications and standards relating to piping and plant layout.
* Develop project deliverables and activities in accordance with relevant codes and standards applicable to the project (e.g., ASME, BS, API etc.).
* Provide technical piping and layout expertise and recommendations to all associated parties on a project.
* Explain layout concepts to internal and external parties in a clear and articulate manner.
* Communicate in a clear and documented approach with all other disciplines (Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Instruments and Process) to ensure information is provided and shared.
* Produce discipline deliverables using approved software and tools.
* Adhere to discipline and corporate procedures, policies and standards and provide feedback and further develop where applicable for continuous improvement.
* Support the execution of works in multi-office work share environments.
* Carry out site surveys and establish plant layout and pipe routing on brownfield and greenfield projects.
* Identifying and supporting the lead engineer in managing change.
* Developing deliverables with technical accuracy and quality.
* Support project meetings and technical reviews.
* Provide discipline input to project proposals.
* Check and review vendor documentation and drawings.
* Available to travel in the UK and overseas for meetings, site visits and inspections to meet project requirements.
Typical background and experience required:
Must have:
* Extensive experience in onshore piping and plant layout design for petrochemical plants.
* Demonstrated previous Pre-FEED, FEED and EPC experience.
* Experience in the principles of plant layout and piping design including layout of pipework and areas for mechanical equipment, knowledge and understanding of operational access & maintenance requirements for different equipment.
* Knowledge of safety aspects, environmental aspects, and commercial aspects of piping and equipment layout.
* Proficient in developing piping and plant layout designs from concept to detailed design.
* Knowledge of pipe stress and supporting requirements to develop early layouts prior to detailed stress analysis.
* Knowledge and experience following piping European, American and International standards applicable to the petrochemical industry.
* Proficient in using 2D CAD software – Autocad and/or Microstation and production of 2D layout drawings.
* Proficient in use of 3D CAD software and 3D model development using E3D and S3D.
* Strong communication skills include being tactful and articulate.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Experience of explaining layout concepts during layout reviews and 3D model reviews.
* Experience in participation of constructability reviews and P&ID reviews.
* Experience of working in multi-office workshare projects.
* Self-motivated to move projects forward.
* Experienced in Microsoft office applications.
Nice to have:
* Furnace piping and furnace layout experience.
* Ideally have UK project experience.
* Experience in energy transition projects.
* Membership of an appropriate engineering institution.
