At Cleveland Clinic London (CCL), the Staff Nurse is expected to provide effective and efficient care to the highest possible standard and ensure patient safety. The post holder will work as part of a multi- disciplinary team to provide a safe, effective, efficient care for patients and relatives, while delivering key performance targets including assurance that the professional nursing practice and delivery of care is aligned to the CCL’s mission and values. The post holder will build and maintain excellent working relationships with other departments to ensure a seamless service for our patients. They will be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care under indirect supervision from the Senior Staff Nurse/Charge Nurse. They are expected to be able to provide general and specialised direct nursing care in accordance with CCL’s established policies, procedures and protocols and drive the delivery of high quality and innovative nursing practice consistent with regulatory and professional requirements. The role of Staff Nurse is suitable for a qualified nurse who wishes to further their experience and skills within the Nursing profession. Key Responsibilities Operational: Take responsibility for individualised patient care as appropriate, working closely with all Caregivers. Document concise, accurate non-contemporaneous records, ensuring they are clearly written, dated and timed, and do not include unnecessary abbreviations, jargon or speculation. Facilitate patient flow, communication and problem solving to ensure the efficient running of the Outpatient department (OP). Prioritise tasks effectively, including the workload of others where required, such as learners and Healthcare Assistants. Carrying out nursing care to the highest possible standard according to CCL Policy and Clinical Guidelines, in line with NMC requirement. This requires a thorough understanding of policies and guidance related to for example: infection control, hygiene and individualised patient needs. Be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and patients, working proactively to reduce any delay in patient treatment Co-ordinate and assist with all clinics and minor procedures. Act as a chaperone where necessary. Ensure clinical practice complies with CCL policies and procedures. Be flexible in staffing situations which may be at short notice. Provides teaching and educational material as appropriate, validates and documents patient and family understanding of teaching. Maintain confidentiality, privacy and dignity for patients at all times. Maintains professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study and ensures they meet the requirements for revalidation. Provide students with the opportunity to learn practical skills and gain knowledge by ensuring the provision of recognised and trained mentors. Administering patient medication safely and effectively, in line with CCL Policy. Attend daily safety huddles Any other duties as required. Leadership: Leads the nursing team in the delivery of patient care collaborating with other disciplines to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes. Demonstrates Shared Governance principles. Participate in the mentorship and induction of new Caregivers and student nurses. Provides feedback on individual progression and/or identifies any concerns. Liaise with senior Caregivers through regular feedback to coordinate and facilitate the activities of the shift and create a positive working environment. Demonstrate professional behaviour, a high level of clinical competence and decision making that inspires confidence of service users and colleagues. Identifies own training needs and maintains professional development in accordance with Revalidation requirements. Actively participate in clinical audit Quality and Safety: Be familiar with and adhere to CCL Policies relating to Safeguarding, Fire, Risk Management and Health and Safety at work Act. Ensure full understanding of the Mental Capacity Act assessment, Deprivation of Liberty and Safeguarding Have the necessary knowledge to identify and escalate appropriately where there may be safeguarding concerns To attend all mandatory training/updates. Comply with COSHH regulations and carry out COSHH assessments. To be competent in the safe use and storage of all equipment in the department. Promptly report any faults and ensure appropriate action is taken. Adheres to the NMC code of conduct and acts as the patient advocate at all times. Participates effectively at the Quality improvements initiatives for the department, ensuring that KPI’s are achieved and are aligned with CCL quality standards. Ensures adherence to CCL Complaints Management Policy and communicates with patients, families, visitors and external providers in a calm, courteous, helpful manner, endeavouring to resolve difficult issues at the departmental level. Ensures a safe environment for patients, Caregivers and visitors following the guidelines of risk management. Proactively reporting incidents, risks and/or failings taking responsibility to minimise these. Demonstrates Infection Control principles and takes appropriate action where there is variance to the agreed KPI’s. Use resources in a cost effective and responsible matter. Carry out additional roles and responsibilities needed for the role as delegated by the senior team. Participates in research and innovation and the dissemination of Evidence Based Practice in care delivery. About You Education and Certification: Current nursing registration (First Level) through the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) required with no restrictions to practice. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Languages: Ability to speak and write in English is required. Equivalent to a level of 7 of the International English Language Testing System or the Occupational English Test (OET) at level B is required. Complexity of Work: Ability to work autonomously and also within a team environment where appropriate. Ability to prioritise workload, ensuring high quality, safe and effective patient care. Can effectively manage and respond to patients and visitors with challenging behaviour and know when to ask for assistance. Demonstrates initiative to proactively problem solve with a solution focus, escalating more complex issues as required. Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with the multi-disciplinary team. Being reliable and flexible, demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment. Good oral and written communication skills with clear handwriting and computer literacy. Work Experience/Skills: Essential: Demonstrable broad clinical experience in the acute care field. Track record of achievement of objectives in present and past jobs in the clinical field. Desirable: Experience working in a variety of outpatient settings. Desirable to be competent in/have had exposure to, the use of electronic clinical IT systems (EPIC, similar modern clinical systems) Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
