Job Posting Title: Senior Attorney Req ID: 10087431 Job Description: The Disney Originals Legal Team works across the development and commissioning of original content for the Disney streaming service. We have an opportunity available to join our experienced and friendly team and are looking for a solicitor who has a minimum of five years post qualification with significant experience within a broadcaster, studio or production company working on television and/ or film production. The role spans both scripted and non-scripted content, working with award winning producers and quality talent and will primarily focus on ensuring that the development and production of content aligns with Disney’s legal and policy requirements. Collaboration is key, and you will be working closely with other members of the team, Business Affairs, Finance, Production Management and the Creative team. In addition, you will establish relationships and liaise with lawyers across the Business including certain specialist areas of Disney, such as music, intellectual property, employment, property and labor relations. The Opportunity & Responsibilities Advising on contracting procedures with production companies. Supervising third party production contractual activity, including reviewing writers, talent and production agreements. Providing legal advice relating to all aspects of development and production, including chain of title, intellectual property matters, production policies and relevant Guild/ Union agreements. Responsible for contracting with and managing relationships with third party production companies to ensure that Disney legal and policy requirements are met. Collaborating with Business Affairs, Finance, Production Management and the Creative team on matters relating to production. Working alongside counterparts in other countries to improve and align (where relevant) processes and practices. Referring and discussing matters with specialist sectors of the Business, including our music, intellectual property, employment, property and labor relations teams. Information management, tracking negotiations and updating agreements. Ensuring processes, policies and procedures are reviewed frequently and maintained to sufficiently protect the Business. Pro-actively monitoring legal, regulatory and industry developments in the UK. Collating and distributing relevant information to the Business to promote others’ awareness of commercial and policy developments and advising on the legal impact of such developments on the Business. Professional Qualifications & Experience Admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales. Material prior industry experience within a media law firm, production company, broadcaster and/ or studio, ideally working on various genres of programming. Solid experience across all contract negotiations in relation to television and/ or film development and production. Capable of advising on and negotiating different commissioning structures and programme financing models. Strong prior experience of advising on clearance, intellectual property and media law matters. Possesses a good understanding of the relevant Guild/ Union agreements within the UK and familiar with the US Guild agreements. Knowledge and/ or experience of European works quotas and tax incentives/treaties. Self-starter with positive can- do attitude who can work well within a close-knit team. Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills. Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines. Methodical and meticulous attention to detail. Strong communication skills.
