Secondary (Years 7–15) / wharekura, Certificated teacher
Social sciences
If you are passionate about geography, ideally South Island physical geography, then the school that’s equidistant between the Alps and the city has a role for you. The geography of Te Kura Tuarua o Tawera | Darfield High School is well suited to geography. Within geo, we care about our relationship with mana whenua Ngāi Te Ruahikihiki and need someone who shares our commitment to a bicultural Aotearoa NZ through their teaching. Junior social studies would be required and Tourism or another related subject could be helpful. It goes without saying that you would need to be able to build great learning relationships with all students.
Our social sciences team is collegial and successful - numbers of students and the results they achieve are impressive.
As a semi-rural school close to Christchurch, at the heart of our community, our development programme is based on a strong vision. We’re in the midst of PB4L and restorative practices training, balanced curriculum reform and cultural capability development. We have over 800 students, Y7–13, most of whom are very well supported from home and well connected to their school; some need us to adapt our practice to meet their needs.
Terms and conditions of employment are covered under the Secondary Teachers Collective Agreement. Overseas applicants must have current NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa, and current NZ Teacher registration.
