Brief Description What will you be doing? Providing specialist technical support and guidance to a Maintenance Engineering team, you’ll focus strongly on quality control and analysis. As a surveyor you’ll carry out topographical surveys and data analysis. You’ll take a hands-on role, both carrying out and supervising technical tasks, surveys and design work. About The Role (External) You’ll provide vital, specialist technical support and guidance to the Maintenance Engineering team. Reporting to the Principal Technical Officer, you’ll enjoy a varied role, with the scope to make a big impact across diverse areas of work. Your focus will be on careful analysis and quality control. We’ll look to you to manage the preparation of work and resource specifications, method statements and plans. We’ll also expect you to proactively check the quality of work that’s delivered. You’ll confirm assets are compliant to the highest standards. You’ll carry out topographical surveys and data analysis. You’ll take a hands-on role, both carrying out and supervising technical tasks, surveys and design work. Along the way, you’ll shape both your own ongoing development and that of others. This position requires hands-on experience with engineering instruments and proficiency in GPS. To excel as a surveyor, you must possess exceptional mathematical and analytical skills, coupled with a keen eye for measurements. Key Accountabilities: Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements, plans and other instructions. Adhere to company policies and procedures Manage and check the quality of work delivered and confirm assets are compliant to standards. Manage the preparation of work and resource specifications, method statements and plans. Provide technical support and guidance. Design, install, test and commission equipment. Undertake and supervise technical tasks, survey and design work. Undertake technical inspections, tests, investigations and analysis of technical data. Prioritise work arising and agree work plans for the group. Prepare specifications and requisition for materials. Manage processes and systems for the calibration and certification of tools and equipment. Manage information to update systems, databases and records. Contribute to your own development and that of others. Experience, skills, knowledge and competencies: Knowledge of technical support activities and techniques. Knowledge and experience of electrification and plant maintenance and construction management process, systems and standards. Knowledge of design requirements, processes and techniques. Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team. Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Able to coach, influence and develop others. Hold and retain the competencies relevant to this post and required by business need. Ideally hold or be working towards and NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in an engineering/leadership subject. Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need. Desirable Criteria: At least 2 years rail topographical survey experience ideally for both plain line and complex S&C. Proficient in the use of various rail survey equipment including Total Stations (ideally Trimble or Lieca), Levels, laser gauging devices (ideally Routescan or LaserSweep), Track Measuring Devices (ideally Amberg or Gedo), Mephisto, Platform/Sixfoot/Track gauges and Hallade equipment. Ability to use n4ce, Terramodel, Trimble Business Centre, Amberg, Gedo, ClearRoute, WinALC and Excel software. Experience installing high accuracy survey network grids using GPS, traversing and levelling processes. Competent managing On Track Machines utilising design geometry control systems such as WinALC/TGCS. Skilled in setting out for track geometry control and management. Ability to interpret track quality and as-built data. Proficient undertaking gauge clearance surveys Knowledge and experience of latest survey and design requirements, processes and techniques.
